What hammer fired handgun would you buy for around $1,000

the DPP allows direct mount of a vortex XL or even some sig optics, DPP is the same thing as the rmsc/k just a little bit longer so it fits perfectly on the 75/sp01 slide without a plate, direct mount.
Nice, so you would recommend DPP over RMR/Plate? I actually have a SP-01 that I need to send off for milling.

Do you have a fav shop that does DPP and/or RMR cuts on SP-01?

Yes DPP is perfect if you like the optics that work with it, I did an sp01 last year with Vigilante and he did an excellent job and it only took a week.

P226. I bought my pre lci/mag disconnect P226 manufactured in 2012 via PPT for $1k about 5 years ago. If it had ever been shot, then it was very few rounds. Even the guys at 2AZone said it looked brand new.

Do you have a caliber already in mind? That could change the recommendation.

If it is a 9mm handgun, I'd look into metal frames - Beretta M9, Sig 226/9, S&W M&P 2 Metal, Walther PDP Metal, and most manufacturers in the 1911/2011 platform. Others have mentioned equally great options like the Beretta PX4 but my blanket answer is metal frame.

+1 for P226. Also maybe the HK P2000. I don't have experience with it, but I hear good things and no one's mentioned it.
X2 for the P226, P229 or P2000. I have all three and love em.

There are optic-ready slides or slides with Romeo 1 Pros already included for the P226 and P229. Can use the same barrel and recoil spring that is on a CA-compliant Sig.

The Beretta M9/92fs is also a nice gun but not optic-friendly, and the standard models have fixed sights as well. The PX4 with an optic cut would be a better option.

The only optic-ready hammer-fired handguns on the roster are going to be expensive since they are the new 2011s.

I'm not a fan of the SP01. Always gotta eye-roll when people mindlessly knee-jerk recommend an SP01 whenever anyone asks what gun they should get. It's so tired at this point. The SP01 isn't that great IMHO. Also, there isn't much room on the top of the slide for an optic. And people want over $1k for SP01s now. Its pretty rediculous. Its probably more affordable to get a 2K11 or P211 than it is to buy a used SP01 and get it optic cut and upgrade the action so its actually enjoyable to shoot.

Keep an eye on the classifieds here. I got one like-new about a year ago for $700 that included over $100 in ammo and stuff.
The biggest frustrations i have with guns on sale here is often folks ask too much. Sure i could make an offer. But when I know i can often get a gun for $300-400 less at a local gun store than they are asking, I’m never sure if the individual will think I’m lowballing or insulting them. I suppose it doesn’t hurt to ask. Still. Why not ask a more realistic price to begin with.

It's not knee jerk I legitimately like the sp01. it absolutely performs better than a 226 for competition. I think the 226 is a better combat gun because of the weight and is one of the best choices for a lighter weight pistol at 30oz.

Try a Shadow 2. I went through a lot of CZs before I found one worth owning.

Asking market value is not lowballing, lowballing is offering an obvious objectively low offer. Like 30% of MSRP or half of a reasonable asking price. I mean if a guy is asking $1200 for a used P226 then yeah they're just delusional...

I have and I preferred my sp01 with brass grips because it was more balanced instead of front heavy. But with brass grips on the sp01 they both weigh 46 oz and very similar to the point where it's just personal preference which is better. The shadow 1 was an SPO1 after all
