What hammer fired handgun would you buy for around $1,000

Asking market value is not lowballing, lowballing is offering an obvious objectively low offer. Like 30% of MSRP or half of a reasonable asking price. I mean if a guy is asking $1200 for a used P226 then yeah they're just delusional...
Out of curiosity, have you bought many used guns here? Just curious how well folks react to offering market value?

Speaking of market value, not that long ago, i got my grail gun. It is a SigP227. Guy wanted $1000 for it, which is the going rate (give or take) if he were to sell it outside of CA. I made it easy for him by driving 400 miles each way for it but well worth it. He didn’t have to ship it off to parts unknown via Gunbroker or similar website. They are hard to find in CA but not impossible as they were off roster here.

The people who are advertising their guns for a wild price tend to be much less amenable to a best offer than someone who is clearly pricing to sell. A 5 percent discount is always ok, 10 percent maybe but that's probably it. red flags are " not in a hurry to sell". " Testing the waters" etc. those guys are happy to sit until they die of old age in the hopes that someone will essentially donate to their retirement fund out of the kindness of their heart I guess.

I have and I preferred my sp01 with brass grips because it was more balanced instead of front heavy. But with brass grips on the sp01 they both weigh 46 oz and very similar to the point where it's just personal preference which is better. The shadow 1 was an SPO1 after all
Other than the grips, is your SP01 factory/stock? I love the Shadow 2. Was never interested in the original Shadow since it was based on the SP01. I didn't care for the SP01, ended up trading it for a PPQ 5" and I love that gun.

No, I've had CGW single action only and da/sa. the triggers out of the box are mediocre but cajunized they are better than a stock shadow 2. The SAO even retaining the firing pin safety was 2.5 lbs

yeah but consider someone selling a used P226 and has it listed for $1000 and there are other P226's listed for $900-$1000. If you offer him $700 that's 30% off asking price. In that case is it a low ball or just price discovery occurring for both parties?

For the record if shadow 2s were regular price here the recommendation would definitely be shadow 2 but they generally cost like 2500-3000 on here vs 9-1000

Not reading 5 pages of wrong, unless the below is said haha

9mm 1911. Specifically SA loaded. Shoot it, love it, maybe at some point send it off to get cut if you want.

Option 2 Beretta 92 Brig and send it to LTT for their cut.

If off roster get a CZ 75/P07/P09(c) and send out to wager for a cut.

that’s my wooden nickels worth of opinion.

Yeah I haven't had any issues buying on here other than the guy that ghosted me because I asked if he would meet at Elite Armory 18 min from his house lol

How is it a low ball if it's within the average price range of sales of the same gun

According to google Used P226 Nitron: ~$703

Like if KBB says my car is worth $18k and I list it for $200k is it a lowball to ask $17k? lol

The CGW packages ain't cheap. I bet you put into it what a P211 or 2K11 costs now. Yeah, the stock SP01 trigger is hot garbage. I think I put a lighter spring in mine and polished the internals but it didn't really improve much. In the end, it didn't do anything a Glock or 9mm 1911 doesn't do better. I'll take a bone stock Gen 5 Glock 34 over a tricked-out SP01 for competition any day.

I'm seeing google quoting like $790-$880 for used P226 prices. I also saw some completed transactions for ~$600. But I think that takes into account free states where used guns are cheaper not only California. Our market is distorted because of the handgun roster too.

I go by national pricing pretty much, if the price is noticeably higher than that I just won't buy it. Never have been gouged for CA and don't plan to start. A slight CA tax then ok

no not that bad at all, 250 for the trigger parts and 175 for an optic cut. Brass grips are about 100. Everyone likes different stuff but the SAO spo1I built absolutely rivals my custom built 2011.

LGS near me has had a few used P2000s for $500 or less. None right now but I’ve seen a few over the past few years. Always seemed like a good one to try. Just never have.

I'm sure a heavily upgraded SP01 is a fine shooter. I just didn't want to go that route, and I really wanted a Shadow 2 anyway. So I just waited for an S2 to be available.

Not anymore. A good price for them is $600-700 and I have seen multiple sell over $1k on gunbroker. Everyone somehow realized this year they were discontinued in early 2025 and will probably fall off roster as well.

I don’t doubt it. But the one they had sat for about 5 months. $500. I believe just sold last month. I doubt we’ll be seeing anymore.

Yeah I'm kicking myself for not buying one years ago but I never thought I needed one since I had the SK model. The FOMO got me and luckily price wasn't too insane.. $686 which turned to be over like $900 with fees, shipping and taxes
