What is more important to you? Capacity or shooting experience?

What is more important to you for a carry gun. If you have an older gun, say a Glock 19 with freedom week mags, or a newer pistol but with 10 round mags only, what would you choose?

In the very unlikely event I would need to use a carry gun, I feel like it would be even less likely that I will need more than 5 rounds, let alone 10. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head for why I would even want an extra mag is for any malfunction issues.

So for me, I’d go with whatever I think I can shoot the first 1-3 rounds best, under duress.

one thing to consider is "freedom week" is irrelevant and has been overshadowed by the three year statute of limitations.

Not sure why these have to be mutually exclusive. My IA only allows 10rd mags regardless of when you got them when it comes to CCW, so shooting experience I guess?

Glock 19 with freedom mags is peak, not sure why you’d want something newer.

With that said, a smaller gun with less capacity is better than no gun.

Why would you want less rounds? I have trained with 10 rounds and with standard mags. I dont see why less rounds would ever be a better idea. Most people cant tell the diffference between the fraction of weight difference to offset the capabilities of more rounds.

Why not both
🤷‍♂️

Obvious being proficient > any nonzero mag capacity
But having a spare doesn’t hurt, especially for those Murphys Law cases

It doesnnt sound like you carry a firearm too often. The times that I have ever had to use my sidearm, 5 rounds is the minimum rounds needed to negotiate 1 person.

Shootability > capacity any day of the week. Doesn’t matter how many times you can miss. Gotta be able to hit the target.

Well, reliability is # 1 and # 2 is it has to be something you’ll always carry when you’re able/allowed to carry as you need it on you when you need it most (so weight, thickness, overall size and concealability).

# 3 is kind of a wash for me as I carry almost exclusively 2011s so I have plenty of capacity and shootability is some of the best of any handgun platform. Once you find the compact 2011s that work for carry purposes and are reliable for your specific use cases, they’re pretty great for #3 and #4 which is being something fun and reasonable enough to sufficiently train on to be good with under pressure, able to draw quickly and consistently, build a repeatable and solid index and grip, etc.

Glock 19, simply because I'm far more proficient with it than I would be with any shiny new pistol that hits the market. Familiarity and proficiency trump novelty every time. Bonus points for free-state magazine capacity.

I won’t deny that, I’m very lucky to live and frequent in areas that are normally quite safe.

I have to like the gun first. For example I just don’t like the SA Echelon. Doesn’t feel right in my hand. It also depends on the caliber. If I have a .45 single stack, I don’t expect as many rounds.
