What is up with the used market?

The MCX-Spear LT upper I had started around $1500 or so, I think? I posted it on GAFSHUB, too. After comments on GAFSHUB, no offers here, and some price drops I did a search on GunBroker and found the real price and lowered it accordingly. It sold within a few days. A lot of these ads have been around forever. There's a guy selling an overpriced Zenith that won't budge on his price, not a penny, and it's been on here since November. If they are hard up enough for the cash, they will eventually lower the price. I've already seen some prices move lower. It also depends on how quickly you want your sale to turn into cash.

I think it's psychological, too. The 2nd Amendment and the bearing of arms speaks to something eternal and ancient in our politics. Couple that with the struggle we deal with living in California. Finally, people get attached to their guns and what they represent on a personal level.

With all that said... yes, the market needs a reality price check. If you have a Gun Broker account, just do a completed item search, and see where the marker should be. Take into account that it's California, and costs are higher here somewhat, but that shouldn't justify a $2000 Glock.

Bad ads sit and good ads go quickly. As this site gets older it's going to get more bad ads that sit for months without budging on an over inflated price. I've watched a Staccato ad being bumped for over a year with thousands of views and the price hasn't moved. It's just more garbage you have to weed through.

These will be cycled out. There was a window of accounts where this was a thing. Only supporters will have this ability to go over a year in the future. Free accounts will get cycled every 90 days and they must reopen the ad for it to pop up for another 90 days.

Supporters are allowed to go past this because they are at least paying annually for the space. If they don’t sell they’re still coming around because supporters usually don’t disappear

I have found the best prices are obtained at local gun stores selling used firearms. I’ve seen used P226’s going for $600 and P220s going for $500. Many folks are asking too much. Those that ask proper prices have their firearms sell reasonably quickly.

IDK, I've been to some places with used inventory priced as of new, for very much not-new condition. But I know you'll get that from time to time.

365 is definately worth the upgrade, and a very good choice at $500. That being said if you don't mind spending a bit more, I really think the Xmacro Comp is one of the best "do everything" guns on the market. Less recoil, full grip but still nice and thin. It's big enough that it's still a fun range gun and good for home defense, but thin and compact enough to use for concealed carry. It's the best carry pistol on the market, and that's coming from a 1911 guy.

As far as the wonky market, it's very strange right now. You do have some delusional sellers trying to sell their used guns for retail+tax+DROS+beat to sh*t by me fee, even with the used gun market being tanked right now thanks to the economy. I've had a Colt Python listed for like $700 under retail (not including the 20% tax even) for a couple weeks with no bites. There's also a few of what I would consider rare/desirable guns for very good prices that have been listed for months. Even selling at well below retail prices, guns just ain't moving right now.

I think the shield x is better IMHO . Comp gus are cool but in a tussle .. you know the rest . Lol

The shield X is decent, especially if you have the BG 2.0. the p365 still has a leg up with their fcu modularity, which s&w lacks.

Local shops selling consignment guns tend to be even more outrageously priced since the seller has to overcome consignment fees which run 20% and up. As if that weren’t enough the buyer has to pay full sales and excise tax. Bad deal all around if you ask me, unless you really have to get rid of a lot of guns quickly.

Sometimes yes, but you can also find a lot of good deals on consignment, either from older owners that don't keep up with the market, or people who inherited a collection and just want to get rid of it. I got a PPK/s, P99 gen 1, and a few others for good prices on consignment.

I’ve seen P-01’s on consignment for $1100-1400.00. I bought one off Calguns for $650 Spring 2025. I’ve seen SP-01’s for $1000.00 on consignment recently . I think the better deals are to ask around your gun clubs. Seems like more folks at the Action Pistol ranges have something they want to sell or know someone who might be willing to part with something.

I've tried looking around on other sites to find a reasonable price to list them, with not much luck. What is the best way to find out how much is too much to ask?

I usually do a search on Gunbroker, try to find either sold listings or current ones with bids that are in similar condition. Itll at least give you an idea of where to start and you can always negotiate from there

FULL description. Too much detail is better than not enough.
List any and all mods.
Full disclosure of any damage or issues.
Proper grammar and spelling.
Good, high-resolution pictures with good lighting. Hide the serial number if you must.
Be responsive to inquiries! Filter for verified buyers for a better selling experience, but with fewer potential responses.
Make sure your price is in-line with the CA market.
Make sure you enable auto-bump if you're able to do so.
