What will Glock do in California?

Oh I get it, but enough with the "your 686 is NEXT!!!" hysteria. It is bloody exhausting.
If back in 2015 someone (not to be confused with SomeOne ;) ) told me the barrels will become a controlled part, and Glocks will be banned in California, I would laugh. Ten years out, we are living this nightmare.
Now, think of 2035. What other infringements you will have to swallow?

"They" came after Glocks using a very made-up reason. What makes you believe 686 is safe?

The trend in California supports this! California will continue to inch forward. I mean, we have now had an ammo background check, and barrel background checks. California overwhelmingly supports these stricter and stricter gun control measures.

Which makes no sense.

Wouldn't such 'fix' make it not the gen3 anymore? And it would need to go through testing?

In this scenario gen6 would make more sense I think
It says specifically that the only thing that can change is the mechanism that allows the switch but if they fix that they don't have to go through testing

So is putting your head in the sand like an ostrich. I'm sorry, but Democrats, while they have had some good bills/ ideas over the years, will never be happy until there is a total ban on all firearms and a repeal of the 2nd Amendment.

That is a fact, not paranoia, nor hysteria. They have learned to play the long game and are slowly screwing every American out of their right to own and protect themselves.

I'm not saying Republicans are any better in general, but atleast they are not actively plotting and implementing restrictions on the 2nd Amendment.

Only if submitted for testing before 01/01/2027
Correct but they've already fixed it on gen 5 so they can fix it if they want to right away, I doubt they will though because that would admit Glock Imperfection

Found a FFL with bunch of New Gen 3 Glock 17, and 19 at $465 OTD. Comes with 3 - 10 round mags.

Almost did a impulse buy.
Why would they sell them at a loss? Even if they sold them at cost: $440 + DROS $37.19 -- should be $447.19... tack on 21%ish for taxes and they are at a loss...strange...and they are throwing in a $15 mag..

I had a feeling that’s about what standard cost was. I would really like to know what actual build cost is for glock. Has got to be less than $100?

If you could get all the manufacturers to agree to not supply any local or state agency in California you might have a shot.
So you think you could get manufacturers to CHOOSE to not sell their products to a market the size of CA?
That's funny.
Even if you could, how are you going to stop the dozens of independent law enforcement firearm distributors from selling to CA even when the manufacturers won't?

That is probably true.
But the same point. I thought that gen5 was designed to address this problem. I am not Glock guy do give me a break if it isn't so.

If it is it would seem more logical to run gen5 through the roster tests than trying to save gen3.
Gen 5 won't pass the roster tests.
It has neither an LCI or an MDM.
It would take a complete redesign of the gun to include those required features.
Glock has no interest in this or they would have already done it for gen 4 or 5 when they did those redesigns.

to be fair the roster was closed until 2023 becuase of microstamping and gen 5 came out in 2017, I do agree that Glock isn't interested because it would ruin their "perfection" to do anything besides the bare minimum 5 years after everyone else does.

Manufacturers would have to pull dealer/distributor licenses from anyone willing to cross the line. Not saying it would work for sure but it would definitely put a strain on departments and unions. Im talking ammo guns gear everything. But the position of the manufacturers at present time isn't exactly working in the average citizens favor. What did Knights Armament do when they got banned by name?

Everyone always says pipe dream this never gonna happen that. Its all self defeating. Take staccato for example. They'll sell a gun at -15% to LEO in this state then they turn around and resell for +40% if not more. Mean while staccato will sell you the CA version at full pop. Make everyone buy the same version at the same price.

I was LEO for 20 years, just retired and I just bought a staccato hd 4 at full pop so Im not some hater. Also always sold off roster guns i didnt like or need for less than I paid for them.

Its just a mess that the citizens alone cant over come . Its gonna take an industry wide move to really put the screws to 'em. Unfortunately that means the 75k+- sworn in California need to feel the strife of the average peasant gun owner.

Complete re-design like... how Shadow Systems and Ruger have already figured out the LCI and mag disconnect on a Gen4/5 Glock?

Glock will be back. California is the largest or second largest non-saturated gun market nationwide.

Yes.
I did not say it wasn't possible.
It is just that Glock has proven so-far not to be interested in doing the work.

Because its already a great design that shouldn't be burdened by California's bs. Glock is really where its at. Less parts parts availability reliability etc. Its like 90% of real world use coverage. Now for extreme ends of the shooting disciplines there are obviously performance limits that are more easily achieved with different platforms. The only thing I wish they would let us try out is the glock 46 without the euro trigger weights.

An updated G5 would require some re-engineering and re-tooling. It's understandable Glock would resist this up to now as it would cannibalize the Gen3 line which has been produced for years. Now that the Gen3 is being shut down, they may finally have the motivation to update something for the California market. At least that's my hope.

Glock is proud of their simple and reliable design. There must be a real strong motivation to change the life-long company mission. It's not really just a few extra parts, it's a philosophical shift.

Sad to have to agree with you. I read Glock actually does adapt their design for some European and other foreign markets, particularly the do have an LCI although it wouldn't qualify in California. But the chances of them doing a MD or manual safety is about zero. Apparently they refused to add the manual safety even for a military contract. On the other hand with Gaston Glock passing on in 2023, who knows what Glock might do in the future. As always, time will tell.

Does the Gen 6 model "fix" the easily illegal ability to add a "Glock Switch?"
It is supposedly going to have a completely different trigger system. So, the potential is there if that is true. From what I understand it will be a cassette style trigger.

Glock will likely come up with some type of Commiefornia model to satisfy the state. Many other things you buy are CA only like some paints, leaf blowers, cars, motorcycles, various lubricants, and on and on. Unfortunately these products are not as good as the original product. When I go out of state I always have my shopping list with me.:sneaky:
