What's your occupation? Question during DROS

Goes back to at least 2005, I legitimately think it means nothing and they don't use it in any way regardless of what you put.

Knowing California, the DOJ will likely share your occupation with the FTB just to cross-check your income and squeeze every last tax dollar out of you.
I definitely don't think they do that, there's a million transactions a year. If FTB has a reason to they will just audit you

What business is it of the DOJ to ask what I do for a living and why is it a requirement to do a PPT?

I understand but what's the reasoning for them requiring this information?

One could argue why we even need a form let alone have to PPT and pay for a Constituional right, but alas that is another discusssion alltogether.

For those that want to enter something clever, remember this is a government form where at the bottom you sign "All statements are true, blah blah blah". If you file taxes with the IRS the government already knows what you do for a living. My CCW has my occupation on it, and I had to enter it on my application and renewal application for San Mateo County. Title and a address of the company I work for as well.

I try keep the lying down to my height, weight, how many hi-profile chicks I had, and how well I shoot . . . for Government forms I tend to be fairly truthful. Lol

I've done enforcement for the state and we didn't need AI to compare that many records.
These days, its different IMO. Efficiency gains, no benefits, no wasted time. If anything, they'll no longer hire new people because the same number of people can do more. It's not a direct replacement now, but more like migration period.

it's more for research. Companies like Palantir is specific in this type of integration.

Of course it could be nothing, too.. I'm just cynical..

Would scanning AI put you in a "different category or on a list" depending on your answer?

Matt
Because it’s actually a really old section from back decades ago. They just weren’t asking for some reason but it’s always been in the law

As someone who works for the state and sees people try to use AI all the time, it doesn't save time yet because the work is too complex. Maybe it will get there some day but it's not even close. I can write a pandas script or even just use Excel and do a lot in like 5 minutes and the difference is I know what I did and I'm engaging in the data and the formulas so that's where I get my ideas and leads. in order to build cases you have to use insight that AI just doesn't have.

As far as palentir who knows, but I believe the penal code also says that the data that is part of DROS can only get used in criminal investigations. But also as I pointed out the occupation requirement has been on the books since pre 2005 I think it's just an identifier like any other.
