Anybody else also thinking of getting out of 45 ACP?

I found myself not really shooting 45 at all lately, and thinking of just selling my pistols and ammo to make room for other things. Primarily moved to 9mm and there has been a slew of new 9mm pistols and other options, not much new for 45 lately. Anybody else in the same boat?

Also may help to thin the herd a little....
I have 1 1911 and that’s my only .45… a Les Bauer SRP and I never shoot it lol

I posted this on another thread, but Ikeo said that thread is going to be deleted, so I thought I should post it here in case anyone else out there could use it — especially those who are interested in not having to give up God’s Caliber as they get older. I can’t find the actual article online right now (there’s a PDF of it floating around somewhere), but John Markwell developed a low-recoil .45 ACP handload called the "Geezer Load" to make shooting comfortable for people with joint pain. It’s particularly popular with arthritis sufferers. I loaded up four ammo cans full several years ago to train with for Single Stack competition, and I still have some left. They are accurate, fun to shoot, and great for training too. Here is the gist of Markwell’s Geezer Load:

No, 45 ACP in my opinion is superior to 9 mm. Sure most 9 mm pistols made today have larger magazine capacity. The test on ballistic dummies show similar results of 45s v 9 mm. I'm not ever wanting to get shot or ever want to shoot anyone but my opinion is that the true test can only be performed on a live human.

Call me. Maybe I'll take some of those .45's off your hands!

Seriously; are you selling pistols & accessories?? 😁👀

Shot my second uspsa match with a Smith & Wesson 25-2 chambered in .45 acp with moon clips.

I impulse purchased this revolver after spending 3 months tracking down a 9mm 1911 🙂‍↔️🤡

You going to sell? What ya got?

I have my family 1932 or 34 colt 1911, a Tisas Duty, and a HK45. The rest of my .45’s went to new homes. I’m not going to get rid of them but i’m not stacking ammo or taking them out very much. The HK gets the most range time by far.
See i’m a dumb ass, that p220 I grabbed it’s gone with every trip. love it. Probably more than my hk45 at this point…

Lol, what nonsense. Try shooting a .357 magnum in a .38 spl revolver, than let ma know how much of the same caliber both rounds are.
The .380 acp is clearly a round belonging to the 9mm cartridge family. It is in fact a "9mm edition". (unlike your statement likes to imply).
38 Special literally has a diameter of .357 and 357 Magnum was developed from it by elongating the casing. So, technically speaking they’re the same caliber, technically.

I tried to do the 40sw thing to bridge the gap but it did not take. I still like 9mm and 45acp better than a gap filled 40sw. The punch/feel of a 40 is more than a 9 and less than a 45, so I need both ends to be happy. To me happy is important.

I had a cz75 in .40, it wasn’t bad. But I still sold it or traded it off for something at some point.

I may try to track down a 96 at some point just to have.

Realistically, 40 S&W is probably a perfectly adequate service round. But it’s also nether fish nor fowl. Totally agree about wanting two different things from 9mm versus 45 ACP, and 40 S&W failing to satisfy either.

Someone already mentioned this above, but 45 ACP remains an excellent defensive round as well.

Watching ballistics tests on YouTube, I’ve noticed lots of videos where they comment how great an exotic 9mm expanded and it measures something close to .45 inches.

I always think to myself, “yeah, but could you achieve that with the most basic 230g 45 ACP?”

I tried to get rid of .45.
Ultimately I failed.
I realized I had 1k rounds that no one wanted to buy so I bought a Glock 41.
I had consigned my Kimber CDP Ultra ported in .45.
After 6 months on the rack I pulled it and ran it in IDPA. Gawd what a sweet shooter.
Then I found a first gen Kimber Gold Match for cheap. I pick that up on 10/17.
I love my compact 9mms and my .40 Glock 22 and 27.
And my .380 Ruger.
And my Automag3.
So I have to keep all of the calibers because I love the guns that go with them.

How does that comp work?
You take out the screw and It slides over the end of the barrel and is clamped on.

If you look at the front sight you can see the factory relief-cut on the back edge to clear the comp.

It’s an interesting design, haha!! I don’t think it’s ever been mounted.

I don't think I've ever "gotten out of" a caliber without good reason, and can't imagine why I would do such a thing. If I have a gun that I like, why "get out of" it?

You could say I've gotten out of 7.62×38mmR, but it's mainly because my only gun in this caliber is a POS. I still have the gun, but I just don't like shooting it. Wanna buy a junky gun?

I got out of 7.63x25, mainly because ammo was hard to find and my guns didn't excite me THAT much. I sold those and have passed over opportunities for other 7.63x25 guns.

7.62x25 isn't much different. My only gun in that caliber is somewhat crude and not very exciting.

.45 ACP is so well represented among so many gun manufacturers and there are so many great examples, that I can't see getting out of it... ever.
