Bad news for the P211 for CA

To my knowledge the CADOJ does not ever 'approve" anything.
I believe after one of their agents "Iggy" put in writing something that is legal (Colt AR15 marked fixed mags) when it was clearly not, they have had a hard stance against saying anything is legal. No matter how black and white it is.
They have on many occasion said they will leave it up to the 58 DA's in the state.
yeah, technically for items like accessories, it happens largely after the fact with the DOJ issuing a bulletin. That said, the definition of a lugged barrel being the same as a threaded barrel was an amendment to the legislative definition by the DOJ to clarify the physical characteristics.

I get the anxiety for sure I just have wonder how many battle fronts do they want to take on with finite resources. And, given its their language they would really be changing the law rather than further interpreting it...no doubt this would be a lawsuit the second the bulletin is issued.

I wonder when this definition was added?
When BBAW registration was happening. CA added all the definitions of each term so people couldn’t say they didn’t know that counted. Or this is what they thought.

P211 is lugged, the ramjet isn’t, that’s why they haven’t gone after the ramjet, to remove the comp on the p211 you have to remove the screw and then turn it 180 degrees for the lugs to align perfectly to remove, the ramjet is just a screw and is not considered a lugged barrel
Only time can tell when Radian releases their suppressor then we'll see.

I get it. And, you keep saying the Radian is high risk getting banned. I see the risk - the CA DOJ will twist itself in knots to take something away from us. I just prefer to deal in the facts or the discussion quickly becomes the truth (like the Canik Radian is an AW...it's not)

The logic Im using is just pointing to a couple of things that don't align with this. First, the current definition does not make the current Radian non-compliant so they would have to change the definition of a threaded barrel. So if there's that. And, if they don't do that, and its just the mere fact that a new design Suppressor can be mounted, then what makes it illegal? Beyond using the device, which is already illegal.

If its that it can be mounted (without a definition update), I'm just trying to follow the logic and showing mounting alternative methods like the pic rail exist.
To you it may not be a AW but to the LE of DOJ it is.

This really a load of crap. For a the state's top law enforcement agency to refuse to clarify what's legal and what's not is some serious BS.

Utterly frustrating

Hope not, its on roster in a few weeks

They are the ones that did the revised definition in 2017. The issue that I have with that is it was effectively changing the structure of the law but did not go back to the legislative houses to officially change the law and was considered 'clarification'.

This is the shady part of what the thread is surfacing.

So if the definition says A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer. It has to be capable from the factory to accept these. The p211 isn't able to accept any of these...

You are correct in the definition above, but you missed the definition of "threaded barrel" which includes lugs.

Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 11, § 5471 - Registration of Assault Weapons Pursuant to Penal Code Section 30900(b)(1); Explanation of Terms Related to Assault Weapon Designation

[...]

(rr) "Threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer" means a threaded barrel able to accept a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer, and includes a threaded barrel with any one of those features already mounted on it. Some firearms have "lugs" in lieu of threads on the end of the barrel. These lugs are used to attach some versions of silencers. For purposes of this definition a lugged barrel is the same as a threaded barrel.

Granted im new at this mine field of laws, but in reading if there is no suppressor that would be capable to fit on the luged barrel (unless owner modified it). Based on a search to add a suppressor you would need to change barrel out with aftermarket. Here is an Ai copy and paste...

Based on the design of the Sig Sauer P211 GTO, it is not designed for easy suppressor attachment without changing the barrel. The P211 GTO uses a proprietary 4.4-inch bull barrel that features an integrated or specifically mounted MACH3D compensator.

Here are the details regarding your request:
Proprietary Barrel: The comp is installed via a specialized barrel block system with a retention spring and wedge pin. Removing it does not expose standard threads (such as 1/2x28) found on typical threaded barrels.
Frame Interference: Users have reported that the frame design of the P211 GTO interferes with mounting traditional suppressors, making it difficult to use even if you could remove the comp.
Best Alternative: To suppress the P211 GTO, you would likely need to purchase a separate aftermarket threaded barrel (if available) or wait for a specialized non-compensated barrel option, as the GTO is designed for competition rather than suppression.

While some 2011/1911 platforms allow for direct-thread suppressors after removing a comp, the MACH3D system on the GTO is a unique, permanently affixed-style system designed to be pinned to the barrel rather than screwed onto standard muzzle threads.

You have a perfectly reasonable interpretation. I think the CA DOJ has taken a broader view of what "capable of" means. There were seizures of Canik TTI Combat Masters late last year because the quick attach system for the compensator was "capable of" mounting a silencer. I don't think the CA DOJ actually identified a silencer that could actually be mounted via that system.

It’s too bad that Loper Bright doesn’t apply directly to state agencies.

Although California courts, including the COA9, would probably have no issue with the DOJ “interpreting” the definition of “threaded” to mean “not actually threaded,” so we probably still wouldn’t get quick relief.

How will the new platypus comp fair with this? Having never held one not sure how it attaches.
New platypus comp is milled with the barrel like the XC and C4X unlike the p211 gto you can take it off. If sig originally made the comp milled to the barrel it would be legal and sold in ca already.

Nope. It would still require a mag lock system and a loaded chamber indicator. And the litany of drop tests and other proof points that guns need to go on the roster.

Even at Shot Show the GT4 and GT5 was not CA compliant and the chatter for a June 2026 CA version has no official announcement. Pretty sure its based on a conversation with a YouTuber motivated by clicks.
