What are you shooting at that distance? If you want to be able to see holes on paper you want as much magnification as you can get. Under 10x is only really good for big ass steel without a spotting scope or a partner

I regularly shoot much-smaller-than-big-ass-steel at 3-500 yards with a LPVO that has the highest magnification on 4x.

People regularly shoot really small groups at 1000 yards with iron sights.

Many of the deals do seem weaker this year. A 10% discount is better than nothing though, and actually does directly offset the 11% sin tax at least, since the 11% is then assessed on 90% of the original price.

I am curious, how you do YOU define "really small groups" at 1K with irons?

Different people will assume differently, depending on their own skills, or what they've seen others do at the range, or at a match.

Me? I think a 10- to 15-inch group would be "really small" with irons at that distance (min. 5-round group, 10 is best). Even a 20-inch group is highly respectable, if you throw in some wind.

Mind you, my experience is limited to AR-15 match rifle (White Oak Armament), 20-inch barrel, handloads with 69- or 77-grain OTM bullets. Not the best choice for that distance.

I wasn't talking about hitting things, I was talking about seeing your shots on paper. You can't see your shots on paper at 50 yards with 4x. It's nice to not need an extra scope when shooting paper.

10 inch group is very small with a scope let alone irons. That guy just wants to talk lol

I'm sitting on my patio letting my barrel cool right now. I can see bullet holes perfectly fine at 50 yards woth my 1-4x scope. Just double checked before hitting post reply and yep. Plain as day.

Palma is impressive but not quite that impressive. the X ring in palma is 10 inches and it's rare for anyone to shoot a perfect score which is 15 in the X ring at 1000. Very rare. The 10 ring is 20 inches and its only the top shooters that shoot all 15 in the 10 ring which is 2 moa at 1000.
