CCW would 40sw be worth it or stick with 9mm?

When the 40 initially hit the commercial market the 40 was far superior then the 9mm. With the development of ammo technology. The 9mm ballistics is near equal to the 40. That is with the right ammo. Additionally, it’s cheaper to practice with 9mm than 40.

I don't often walk in the Woods, but when I do I don't carry a gun. When I see a Brown Bear that snuck over the border (as there are no brown bears in CA) I would shout "BOOOO!" and the the bear would freeze in fear. Then I would go all Chuck Norris on them as a real men doesn't need a pistol to wrassle a bear. YMMV ;) :cool:

With the ammo materials shortage, 9mm ammo costs almost as much as .40 S&W ammo.

Ammoseek show 9mm at 0.26 CPR while .40 S&W is at 0.26-0.28 CPR
 
How much time are you going to devote to practice and training with what you carry? If the answer is : not much , then it doesn’t matter what caliber you choose because it takes time and energy to develop proficiency.

The folks who I know who are high level shooters and are serious about training, dropped .40 a long time ago. It’s also a generation thing. For those of us who bought .40’s when they were the latest greatest, actual ballistic data may not matter versus psychological attachment. More so for those with little interest or time to train.

For me , the cost of training and my ability to be more accurate and get sights back on target with 9mm was the deciding factor.

I was surprised when people shooting Limited with nice Tanfoglios dropped .40 after years of competing.
