The icon only shows in DMs?

Why do I need the votes of others represented as an emoji to understand what is can see in English?

Because I like emojis and the buttons would go in the DM display would be on your title

Is this really a big enough problem that it needs a solution?
It doesn't seem so to me.

It most definitely is. I get complaints about this almost every day. So I want people to take care of it themselves. Also new users coming on it’s getting worse. So I’m looking for automated ways for people to do things on their own. Once it’s automated then it’s not my problem, press the button and move on. It forces people to check themselves if they’re inconsiderate with too many people. Right now no penalty, sellers get it.

I’m new here and inquired about a few options. I am picking up a great option after my 10 day waiting period. I will say that the buyer I worked with was great. Did we have to compromise on price a bit, sure, but overall he was responsive and I made sure I was responsive, on time to the ffl, and did what I could do to make it easiest for him.

I am about to list a couple 9mm and a hunting rifle I don’t use. I hope to have a great buyer on the other end, but do I expect it.. nope.

Not a fan. Negotiating is just that. We are all adults here. Why not let people do what humans have done as long as there have been humans buying, selling, and trading?

We already have the feedback system which is excellent, but that's one buyer and one seller, not voting en masse or anonymously.

I have a better idea...a "suppress buyer" button. This just prevents the lowballer from being able to DM for sale ads if they get 5 or more suppressed votes, not an icon that lasts forever until some people vote the other way.

It's like a timeout result that may last for <x> time, like a day to a week.The alleged lowballer is shown a message when they try to message about a sale ad after the timeout takes effect. They can still DM, but not about sale ads for <X> time.

No. It's that garage sale mentality. You could be selling a nice coffee cup for a dollar and someone is going to offer you 25 cents. They want to feel like they got a deal. It's fine with me. At least I got rid of something I didn't want anymore.

With the suppress buyer button, an individual user can suppress a specific buyer for any reason; lowballing (as interpreted by the seller), attitude, lazy or low-effort comms, etc.

If the buyer gets 5+ within <X timeframe>, suppress them from being able to DM others about sale ads for <x> duration. Regular DMs would be allowed.

It's similar to the lowballer button concept, but it allows people to simply 'pause' a buyer for any reason, not just lowball offers. Sometimes I want to pause a buyer because they write terribly and are also offering an insultingly low price. I may have decided just based on their careless attitude that I won't sell to them.

Maybe the original person suppressing the buyer can also unsuppress once they decide to open the item up to lower offers, assuming the buyer approached with respect.

However you decide to proceed, can't hurt to try it out I guess. I come from the video game dev world where developing the seed of an idea was par for the course.

I was attempting to sell 2 highly customized Glocks and got so tired of lowball offers and getting ghosted that I resorted to selling them on consignment at my lgs. Once knowledgeable people could get their hands on them they both sold in 1 weekend. I did have to give up 15% of my selling price, but it was worth it not to deal with the hassle. I just posted a screaming deal for a handgun yesterday. No lowball offers so far, but I have got a couple of people ghosting me after asking questions. I've come to expect those as they've obviously moved on to something else and forgot about our conversation. It's annoying, but not anything worth losing sleep over. This time I'll just wait it out until someone who truly appreciates the gun and the price finds it and appreciates the deal.

Agreed. 2A Zone Riverside asks for 20% which I also think is reasonable given their foot traffic. My local gun shop with far less foot traffic wants 30%.

Its good to see a lot of passionate people on this thread. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to resolve this or classify this as a "problem". The classifieds here isn't like FB Marketplace or Offer Up where the expectation and norm is to negotiate concessions or steep discounts on everything. Theres a really good chance buyers will run into these sellers again so they shouldn't come off as discourteous because theres a chance one day, a seller will have something that is truly a steal or truly a super-rare item the buyer would pay listing. People should be able to submit offers whatever they want, some sellers may be feel disrespected for that. idk, can a moderator or staff comment if there is an official rules or policy with disrespect, tire kicking, non-serious buyers shooting their shots?

My vote is for Laissez-faire. Let people work it out. If anyone gets stupid, the ignore user button is available and mods can be brought in for further action if-needed.

I've been ghosted quite a few times. set price, set place to meet, text day of meet up, ghosted. That's why I don't hold anything for anyone anymore. I was holding people's place in line but was getting ghosted and told other potential buyers that the sale was pending. A few people would be like "you already sold it?!" dude you didn't respond for 3 days, eat .

The only official thing we have now is, if they have the no lowballers prefix it has to be within 10%. Aside from that it's fair game but we still have people complaining.. Hence the thought of adding in some penalties and benefits..

Seriously though, this is a way for people to publicly shame. This happened quite frequently on the L, site with people constantly threat crapping and being in pissy moods. Lol. Now we're trying to change that, but putting in some checks and balances because when you let things go, you can see how things get.

There was an insane amount of the thread crapping. IMHO, same problem different time, different solution. I think if people don't care then it's not a big deal. Plus it's one of the more common issues people have here. Much like people used search quite often with out location fields but now we do.. We're here to enhance the experience to make things easier for people.

I come from a world where if there's consensus, we can use technology to fix minor issues so we can push things forward to scale. The less you have things to complain about the better it is for everyone. As long as there's a common set of rules and everyone knows the impact, then the computer governs the rules in place. That ends up being less work for the moderators to get in the middle. The rules just have to be fair and penalties have to be significant enough to make a difference.

I look at it more as gamification. The whole value add here is the reputation building in different areas, but reputation doesn't only go it can go down too. Ultimately, I'm just trying some different approaches to get emailed/reported/etc. If we can push it back to you guys to self judge, like the feedback which is post, and add one that pre sales, then we have both scenarios covered.

Both parties would have a good picture and adds value to our platform for more quality on both sides which should make everything smoother.. That's idea at least. I'm not going to work on it right away, but I see this constantly come up. Same thing with flakers and ghosters. It's not hard to just say something out of courtesy to the other person. If you do it you're rewarded. If not nothing, else leave a bad taste.

Keep in mind, this is only in DM's. Not a public rating, but publicly viewable
