Have you ever really wanted a firearm?And then when you got it it's Terrible

Maybe it's a matter of different strokes for different folks, but I've owned two Kimbers and they were both rock solid. I don't like their magazines which tend to pinch my hand when I slam them in, but if I had been able to mount an optic on my Kimber Custom TLE/RL II, I'd still own it. Never had a jam or any other problem with it and even with only iron sights (which are a challenge for old eyes like mine) that 1911 trigger could put the bullets right where I aimed it.

Kimber has a bad rap but I've read many testaments to their reliability. Was there a big QC improvement in the last decade or so?

Here is what I get from a Google search about Kimber's quality control:

Kimber has not announced a specific upgrade date for quality control, but the period between approximately 2009 and 2012 is frequently cited by users as a time when issues arose due to rapid production growth. While specific dates are not available, many users have observed that the quality appears to have improved since that time, with some current assessments suggesting recent models are again producing quality firearms.

My Kimbers were bought about 10 years after that, so maybe I just dodged the bullet so to speak.

smith 617 6 inch barrel with hillery hole trigger at bench rest could not hit a beer can at 7 yards. had a gun smith lighten the trigger now can hit a golf ball at 20 yards of hand

My 92fs isn't terrible but as many have said before me, the grip is thicker than Shane Diesel, the DA trigger pull is longer than the Oscars, and useless front sight can't changed without a drill or some serious milling work.

Putting on new grips helped a lot but it's definitely more of a beauty queen than a badass. Reliable, yes, but so are my striker-fired guns. That said, the Beretta is gorgeous, well made, and the DA pull (flawed though it is) should help me get better at SA trigger pull.

SIG P220 SAO.

I had P220's for decades and always wanted a single action version. When SIG released the SAO, I was excited. I bought the basic version with stainless slide and a Legion SAO. I shot it a bit, cleared it for carry, and started using it. I always take a new gun to gun class. I absolutely hated the gun past 100 rounds in a day. The thumb safety is incorrectly placed. Shooting it like I shoot a 1911 results in a sore thumb and joint. I sold that gun off, but kept the Legion version.

Sig MPX was that one for me. I was all kinds of excited but it's just been sitting in the safe for shoot, probably 6 or 7 years now. It just isn't fun with a fixed 10 round mag. At all. And they lied about conversion kits so it's stuck as a 9mm only.

Steyr 9mm

I'm not sure which Steyr you refer to but in the 1980s I bought a Steyr GB, which in theory with a fixed 5" barrel should have been an awesomely accurate pistol. When I took it to the range, my little Smith and Wesson 469 with a 3.5" barrel could outshoot it every time. Maybe it was just me twitching as I shot it or something, but I sold that gun after a couple of months.

Similar sentiment until I put on Lok thing grips. Now it feels great in the hands.

I almost bought a P22 but I asked the store clerk to field strip it and neither he or I could reassemble it; I passed.

Try the P365 in 380, it’s like a different gun.

I’ve been looking at a G20/29 for my woods gun. I’m disappointed to read about the reliability issues you’re having.

My G29 is super reliable and runs everything in 10mm/40sw.

Yeh, the aims surplus Glock 17 Leo trade in Gen 3. The pictures look nothing like what I went in for the incoming transfer. It was all worn in, frame had a bunch of wear, slide was worn, plastic Oem sights were dented. Still havnt even picked it up yet; I’m in the middle of the 10 days. It will be my first Glock 17; learned the Glock platform on the g19, g26, and g23. I knew I was going to purchase to make this a direct optic cut project or purchase glock gen 3 mos slide for optic. I guess the worn in frame would make it a great candidate for my first time experience of laser stippling……

Sorry to hear about your experience with Aim Surplus, I ended up getting one of their G22 LEO Trade In's at a ridiculous price and had no issues. My friend bought from a similar retailer but all he had to do was replace the extractor on his G22.

Steyr M9. I’d get trigger freeze shooting fast. Terrible gun I really wanted until I got it

Spring field EMP early manufacturing year. Failure to feed 2 out of 9 rounds almost every mag until I sent it in for work and line the gun on the range. It shoots much better now but still some jams on occasion.

.40 guns in general

I bought into the hype and got a XD-40 for my first handgun, and a Shield .40. They weren't bad guns but not great. I did well in a run and gun shooting class but didn't really like it. Realized .40 was much snappier than 9mm and got rid of them, luckily before everyone else realized and prices crashed

I see some poor experiences with the XD9. I actually loved mine and still have it. Very sentimental. The one I hated was my Glock 19 Gen 5.

It was basically like a Glock with a slightly better trigger, crap but usable trigger, very reliable, lightweight, cheap

Not particularly in that way...more like it was an impulse buy and I regretted it. Keltec Sub2000, Walther P22. Those I don't like at all. I even spent money on Mcarbo stuff on my Keltec yet still don't enjoy shooting it. P22 was a paper weight up until i changed out the firing pin and now it's semi functional. Still hate it though, should be embarrassed to say Made in Germany on it... quality is terrible.

The only Glock I own is a 34, it's a great pistol...but yeah I agree ergos on Glock are terrible.
