help me pick my second gun: Springfield Echelon 4c Comp vs HK VP9 A1-K

After much thought and deliberation, I ended up choosing neither of this and got the Stacatto c4x after holding one in my hands and feeling the level of quality on that piece. My wife will kill me when she sees the charge. I am dead, I will die a slow and agonizing death.

I'm a new gun owner, got my first one a month ago (Sig P320 X5 Legion), thinking that it would enough for home defense and fun at the range. Next thing I know I took two separate 16 hour handgun courses, another 16 hour one for CCW coming this month, been dry fire practicing almost every day, obsessing as I discover everything about firearms, and now I have a list of a bunch of guns I want to eventually own (carry, shotgun, and rifle). I have no idea how I got here.

Cut story short, I think my next one will be something I can carry. On this realm, I am looking for those pistols that are concealable but still fun to shoot, with a 4 inch barrel, and shorter grip module.

I'm looking for the best thing I can get under $1500. In this range, I have narrowed to these 2 pistols, purposely not including the P365 as I want something different than a Sig for my second one (and I think the Echelon and HK here are better options for me anyway, not to mention they look amazing, the Echelon feature rich and optics ready, and the HK with outstanding build quality).

I have been searching for comparisons between these 2, and have not run into much.

Also, if there is something else I should consider, please share.

I have the full sized Echelon. The compact might be better than the 4.5 if you want it for the EDC. It does print a bit. Great gun though. I love it.

Totally worth it. Mine doesn’t know about the DWXc I bought two weeks ago yet. Luckily she is fine with guns but isn’t into them enough to know/notice the difference between most of them. I’ve been dry firing this thing with her in the room for hours and I think she thinks it’s my CZ. I’m not hiding anything technically…

I like to stick to the same type of fire arms(manual of arms) if you’re carrying or competing. So the paddle on the Hk would be out for me.

I shot both guns at a gun event! The VP9K really left me with impression! Hit all the target with just 1 mag. The Echelon comp also gave me the same result but VP9K has better grip design

I went through a box full of holsters for nearly every pistol I own. Glock 19/17/43X, VP9s, SA XDs, Sig P365X, etc., I could only conceal and only felt comfortable with my G43X and Sig P365X. I have both on my CCW along with my G19.

I went through the exercise of conceal carry around the house with various guns in various positions with various holsters. I'm 5'8" 195 lbs and could NOT appendix carry at all. I now carry both the G43X and Sig P365X in Black Arch IWB at 3:30. Very comfortable for me.

The P365X/XL is VERY easy to conceal even more so than my G43X. I tend to carry the P365X in Summer and G19 in Winter when baggy clothes and coats are worn.

The best Conceal Gun is one you can (a) actually conceal in comfort, so that (b) you actually carry it. Many find their gun is too big or too heavy or just to uncomfortable to carry, so they rarely do.

Hear me out, I have an Echelon, it’s amazing in every way.
Can it be a CCW? Yes, but the hellcat is a lot slimmer and easier to conceal.
Check out Echelon and Hellcat side by side at your LGS, it will be eye opening.

As others have said. The HK VP9s are stealthily accurate. I find when in shoot my vp9 accuracy is on point. I don’t even like the gun that much lol. I complain about the mushy trigger lol. I prefer my other guns and even kicked my vp9 out of my Ccw rotation, but I begrudgingly say it is accurate AF and should be in the starting line up. The VP9 ain’t as sexy as the new hotness guns out there but it delivers

VP9 is boring. Boring is good. Lol

Is it comp'd? I hate my Hellcat Pro! Yes it feels good to hold but miserable to shoot, especially hollow points / +P. Snappiest gun I've ever owned, literally hurts to shoot any SD round.

Hogue grip fixed that for me. Now it is very pleasant for me. I use Hogue grips on multiple of my small CCWs though (MC9, HC Pro, LCP Max)

I've owned the comped Echelon, VP9 & the PDP. Great trigger on PDP, excellent grip on VP9, but my "go to" is the Echelon. Flat shooting, customizable & best bang for tbe buck. IMO.

For CCW, I prefer the P365 Xmacro with the XL grip module (again, very customizable) or the Shield X.

I have the Echelon 4.5in NOT ported (unsure what you meant by comp’d).

I don’t have any experience with the Hellcat. I am willing to bet the Hellcat is snappier than the Echelon since it is smaller and designed for CCW purpose.

Every small polymer pistol is snappy. OP is asking for a CCW pistol that would second his P320, which already serves the purpose of full-size duty, flat shooting pistol.

A good CCW usually means smaller and lighter, so you can carry all day every day, which usually means more snappy as a compromise.

I don’t think the discussion is really Echelon VS Hellcat.

They’re two different pistols for two different purposes:

- Full-size duty pistol: Echelon, P320, G17, etc.
- CCW: Hellcat, P365, G43, etc.

For CCW I would get the Bodyguard 2.0, Comp or not, your choice. For next guns to collect I would go for Walther PDP, Echelon w/optic, and then VP9 in that order.
