How Private are Y'all with your CCW?

The part that I bolded sir- looking back, I bolded the wrong section (ugh- my bad). It is "...and that I wish the standards were higher to carry a weapon." that I intended to ask "why'?
I am lucky to live in a pro CCW county, I am pleased to know many others in my county choose to exercise the right. I just don’t like that the shooting standards are so low. I feel like we set the bar sooooo low, in my county, and all I could ask for is people have to shoot better

We have no standard set for any other right. I would not expect there to be anything set for exercising 2A rights. While I would prefer people be trained I don't want the government to impose any standards. I do not recall any studies/data from constitutional carry states where this has been an issue.

So we are all fundamentally on the same page here. I can just say I’m still a father and a husband and I live in this community. When the standard is 30/50 on a B27 at 21 feet, and you can take the test unlimited attempts (at $50 an attempt), and folks need multiple attempts it makes me uncomfortable. Uncomfortable in the sense of if you perform that poorly with no stress what are you going to do in a realistic scenario.

But I am new here in this online community. Not trying to stir the pot, just trying to contribute to the conversation.

Suggests if the bad guys come a'knocking- they best ALL duck! ;)

Extremely private about anything Pew related. Only those I would trust when SHTF know anything about me having pews. Otherwise I give off vibes to most people that I'm somewhere between neutral or anti gun liberal.

I completely agree - I wish the standards were much higher.

Fresno County's standards are very low, 50 shots total from 3,5,7 yards. Some people still managed to completely miss paper...

The issue with "higher standards" is it can/will disallow folks that are constitutionally allowed for self protection. We need to stay far, very far, off that path.

If it’s worth anything to you I was a rangemaster for most of my law enforcement career and I didn’t care for the tiered standards system we used and felt everyone should have been held to the 3rd highest of the 4 separate tiers.

I recognize this is separate from your argument about the constitutional question of standards period. Just offering my two cents.

I get that. However, when qualification targets start looking like shotguns were used, I start leaning towards a mandatory training course. During the Founding, individuals were taught to shoot so they would be effective at food gathering, self-defense and supporting the militia. Today, keyboard heroes from HALO walk in without ever having previously fired their weapon and qualify under some pretty sketchy standards.

This one was "Take all the time you want" from within 2-7 yds.

I'm all for training. I encourage training, I train and train my kids regularly. I do draw the line where training is required to exercise your constitutional rights.

So I can admit my own hypocrisy here in that I’d prefer we had a system of no regulation. Like if we went with a Vermont or Maine standard of just allowing people to carry firearms I’d prefer it. I can say just based on my limited experience with watching about 60-90 ccw quals the people who carry them often scare the 💩 out of me.

I don’t know why it’s important for me to point this out but I wrote a 4 letter word that was edited into a cartoon.

Freedom sure is scary and dangerous!! I'd love to see more affordable/free training available for us average people to be safe and more proficient with self defense.

These groupings are atrocious. No excuse for 2-7 yds

I understand. I'm passing on all slippery slopes... Let's get CCW established as a national standard for a couple years, then if indicated by need- go back with rules/standards. First order of that business; no more than three rules.

I train consistently. I made that commitment to myself and my family when I decided to get a ccw.

I'm fortunate i can do that and realize that not everyone can. However, it does scare me to know that there are ccw holders who don't have the minimum skills to actually hit what they need to hit or even manipulate their gun proficiently and safely.

When there are minimum standards required to drive but none clearly defined to carry a gun that can easily kill or seriously injure yourself or someone else, something is wrong.
