Announcement Important Update: Deposits Requests = Ban 🚨

I’m ok with criticism I think it makes the site stronger overall.
For the most part yes. There's some buttholes out there that just complain to complain though. I complaint to improve!

You are definitely building a good thing here. I appreciate it.

I've driven half a day away to sell but I don't know that there's any deal I'd do it for as a buyer, having to do it twice. Maybe if I was retired and I could do some sightseeing and adventuring along the way.

Reputation doesn't help if the account/password is hacked.

I've driven 2 hours to make a purchase only to have the seller no show and ghost the (other) site afterwards. It sucked, but life went on and no one lost any money.

Everything really requires context. For example I offered a user this deal:

BNIB hkusp elite 45 with 10 mags and 300rds match ammo and two RIA m200 38s for 1400

I asked for 1000 deposit meet at local shop. 400 due at dros for frame and revolversin n at a future date.

He takes possession of the elite upper all mags and I pay for ammo transfer.

These items easily worth the 1000 deposit.

Not everyone is out to get you.

I don't care what your reputation is. 50% deposit or any deposit is ridiculous.
I was going to keep my mouth shut, but after I read that, I just can't.

Idk what your personal life is like, and I don't really care, but I know that my time is valuable. If someone is wanting to drive from wherever, that's on them, I'm fine with it, it's their decision. HOWEVER, if someone wants me to meet them at a store closer to them, for example, if I'm in OC and they're in SD or West LA or something, then a deposit is how I make certain that I'm not getting ghosted. If I'm putting the wear and tear on my car to drive 60+ miles to make someone's life a little easier, sitting in traffic, spending the $ on gas, AND using my time, then you better believe I'm going to ask for a deposit upfront. If you don't like that, that's your prerogative, nobody is forcing you to buy stuff, but if you're going to buy things, then you play by the sellers rules or you walk, it's that simple, the buyer doesn't dictate the terms of the sale.

I think of a deposit as money the buyer puts up for a seller to hold an item, until the buyer can show up at the seller's location.

If the buyer wants the seller to show up at the buyers location that's another story.

I will probably never ask for a deposit.

But I might ask for a messenger fee (non-refundable, of course) for delivering it.

In our continued effort to protect buyers and sellers on the platform, deposits via Zelle or CashApp are no longer allowed.

If a deposit is required for a transaction, we strongly recommend using PayPal Goods & Services. This option provides built-in buyer and seller protections that Zelle and CashApp do not.

👉 What you should do:
  • Do not send deposits through Zelle or CashApp.
  • If someone requests a deposit, it should only be handled via DMs so we can review if needed.
  • Report immediately any user who asks for Zelle or CashApp payments.
  • Always check their account age and reputation/badges first

Our priority is keeping users informed and ensuring trust across the community. Thank you for helping us keep CAguns.net secure.

I've made it mandatory to close manually so that every user understands the risks should you decide to use those services.
How do I report I scammer? I had someone attempt to get me to send them the serial number of my firearm and high resolution photos bc they wanted to either use my info to male a fake sape post or wanted to claim my firearm as stolen or theirs.

They cannot claim it’s theirs if it’s registered to you. You can offer to send a pic with your screen name and date as proof it’s in your possession and details will be shown at transfer time

Also to report them, there is a little Report link under every message. Use it or invite a mod into the conversation.

Please go and read our messages again, I literally said that covering serials is fine by me.
I’ll post screenshots of that myself if you have troubles finding that in the thread.

@ikeo1

Can you update that Zelle comment?

Ran into this problem a few times

All my items are FTF but occasionally will ship if requested:

Payment for shipping Zelle

Buyer states zelle is prohibited and requesting "deposit" via zelle is a ban-able offense

How in the world is the payment for buying an item online to be shipped misconstrued as a DEPOSIT????

I've sold some of my collection over the last few years, all face to face. Transactions have been pretty easy. Its 30, then 90 miles to the nearest FFLs I use, and longer to others buyers have suggested. There have been interested parties who said they wanted something for sure, but then just ghosted the final "where/when to meet" messages. I would not want to get in my car and drive 180 rt without a small deposit.

I consider $50 large enough to make someone follow through with their promise to show up. So I always ask for that via an agreed upon transfer service. I don't have a PayPal account. I thought that was only for old people, like AOL. I don't have blockchain tokens. I thought that is only for young people.:LOL: I have used Cashapp, Venmo, and upon buyers insistence Zelle. (They were old and tech challenged.)

So, a buyer can transfer a deposit via Venmo, right?
But can a seller agree to a written request from the buyer to use Zelle or Cashapp?

Thanks!
