Sig Sauer seized to be worth a the day they set up shop in the USA. If you don’t have a SIG Sauer Made in Germany you own MIM filled, half assed built, corner cut piece of junk.

It's actually much more complicated. It all started with SIG, a Swiss company from the 19th century that made things like railroad cars, then packaging machines, and also guns. Their flagship after WW2 was the SIG P210, the famous Swiss army pistol (accurate to 2" at 50 meters, even after you switch all components between guns), and the assault rifles used by the Swiss military, but they had been making much of the small arms for the Swiss military. In the 1970s, SIG was trying to export handguns, and ran into export control laws. So they partnered with Sauer, a very traditional German maker of hunting rifles (originally from the metal and wood crafting area of Thuringia, but after WW2 located on the northern coast). The partnership at some point changed names from SIG (all caps) to Sig-Sauer (capitalized). In the early 2000s, the Swiss parent company stopped making guns (which is the P210 ended), and sold the remaining parts (Sig-Sauer, Blaser and Hammerli) to the investment group Lueke & Ortmeier. In that process, the names changed multiple times; for a while there was also SAN, SwissArms, and a few other names and companies. And then, sometime in the late 2000s, the bulk of the civilian handgun business got moved from Germany to the US, where it is run by Mr. Cohen, whose reputation sucks to be honest.

But the quality control problems cropped up much earlier. For example, in the late 90s and early 00s, the last few Swiss-made P210s had such quality control problems that well-known dealers in Germany had to send 80% of all guns back. And that was one of the pistols that had a reputation for extreme accuracy and reliability! There was also a whole line of P220s (German-made 45 pistols) that were known to fragment their slides and slide stops regularly, due to metallurgy problems: it did not affect the stainless models, only the black ones (which is why Bruce Gray built the 10mm version only on the stainless base).

Are people forgetting that Sig also makes the P365? Which really is the finest pistol in its category ever made. No other gun maker can compete with the P365 (alternative designs from SA, Glock, S&W, Ruger, HK, FN, Canik, etc... are not on par with the P365). And to my knowledge, the P365 is made in the USA not Germany.

Personally, before the latest controversy with the P320, I started moving away from the design simply because the P365 Xmacro became more widely available, and I'd just rather shoot the P365 over the P320.

Not to mention they would have to really drop their drawers to compete on price but, I've always thought they were outrageously expensive and not worth it from an ROI perspective.

I'm not sure I'd call the duty guns Staccato is offering "race guns".

IMHO, until Glock makes a similar offer, it's all just marketing and PR.

They market themselves as a duty weapon first and foremost and have contracts with a bunch LE agencies, and I’m sure they work on pricing in those cases. Seems they see an opportunity to potentially add some market share here.

Interesting to know. I have thought of 2011 mostly as race guns for IPSC shooters, or collectors of expensive toys. Didn't appreciate that they want to be in the LE duty gun market too.

The P365 is filled with sloppy fitting MIM parts like the P320.
The P365 design is better than the P320 on the manual safety models in that the safety actually blocks the sear.

And to my knowledge, the P365 is made in the USA not Germany.

The USA made Sig guns are the ones with MIM parts.
The German guns don't have a history of problems outside a few very specific problems on short runs of parts that were figured out and made right.

Here are a couple of excellent videos on the P320 from an ex-army armorer and gunsmith named Brad(?) Ledger. He literally takes the gun apart and goes over every single piece and talks in detail about the parts, quality, mechanics, safety, etc., and how he personally has made his P320 less likely to have UD or other issues. He speaks solely from an engineer's perspective and does not take sides or pass judgements regarding the gun.

At this point only people with some degree of brain damage buy/use P320’s. So glad I sold mine months ago.
P365 is not much better and has its own issues. At this point sig fanboy is synonymous with a slough of mental defects lol

What issues does the P365 have? I keep seeing people saying how terrible they are but no one can tell me why.

I submitted a contact form at SigSauer.com 2 weeks ago asking if I could turn in my p320 X-Full and get a credit towards another gun, they never responded.

I asked a question about an iron sights order I had for my wife's P365XL and they got back to me within 10 minutes
