It’s a way to keep guns off the roster.Mag disconnects are a solution to a non-existant problem. The add unnecessary complexity and additional failure points. They serve no useful purpose whatsoever.
I feel like this argument about a gun grab can go either way actually. If said attacker gets hold of your gun in a scuffle and theres one in the chamber and mag out, they can't shoot you with your own gun. I think (not 100% sure) that was the reasoning behind cali putting the MD in. I think an officer had his gun taken and shot with it. Still doesnt make sense since PD doesnt have Mag Disconnects.Probably showing clear.
It probably matters more in a defensive scenario more than many others tbh. You can unknowingly bump the mag release IWB (especially if your holster doesn't fully protect the mag release, you run an extended mag release for one handed manipulations, etc.) or it can get hit in an entanglement/gun grab situation. If the mag is unseated or dropped you've got the round in the chamber (hopefully) to solve the problem or until you can recover the matter/reload if you carry a spare.
The reasoning was the roster. Adding the disconnect was a simple way of reducing the roster and handgun availability in California. Forcing manufacturers to redesign and reapply for roster spots.I think (not 100% sure) that was the reasoning behind cali putting the MD in.
you have to unload and show clear, then insert an empty mag so you can pull the trigger before you can holster and clear the range. Definitely take it out because it will be confusing enough to do it right without the empty magazine process.so in competition you would need to load an empty mag when you show clear? i was planning on using my pdp also for my first uspsa match but now i need to get the mag disconnect
any reliable gunsmiths in sgv area that you guys would recommend?you have to unload and show clear, then insert an empty mag so you can pull the trigger before you can holster and clear the range. Uhm, you're taking what I said out of context. That's not at all what I said. Also, not in favor of the MD. Just saying what I think I remember the reason being. The roster was already in effect before the MD became a thing (im pretty sure, not certain)The reasoning was the roster. Saying it was "for the children" is simplistic noise.

I didn't say you were in favor and didn't say your assumption was right. The roster was in place long before they added the MD requirement. The disconnect is sold to folks as a safety device but it's really just an added layer to the roster. Old models that companies pay fees to remain listed are grandfathered as long as they pay the listing fee, but anything new has to have the MD and lCI designed in. "California only" versions. Just an added burden on the manufacturer.Uhm, you're taking what I said out of context. That's not at all what I said. Also, not in favor of the MD. how much?I do them in Van Nuys which is the next valley west of the SGV.
Order the plug and I can do the teardown and reassembly without the mag disconnect but with the plug instead.
Pretty easy. Obviously you just look down the barrel
