Hi all,

Lifetime member of Calguns.

Had been off CGN for a while and, when I went back, it seemed the site was still having technical troubles. Thought I'd register here to see how things run.

Yes sir! Finding ammo has been a pain and I need to give it a clean.
Definitely trying to put the rounds through the g19 before I do much to it

Your Arisaka is one to reload for. That’s how I have been able to continue to use mine.

As to your G19, good idea to shoot it a bunch first. Beware of all the “junk” out there that the endless plethora of aftermarket parts manufacturers will try to convince you that you absolutely need. For me, I like the Glock factory performance trigger, some steel sights, and removal of the finger grooves on Gen3 variants. I have also used the factory extended magazine release, very carefully filing the sharp edges. Those do not interfere with my holsters, and have never inadvertently dropped a mag while carrying, but sure make the difference in making faster mag changes.
That’s about all I ever do to any Glock.

Acren182, I carry a Glock 19 gen 3, bone stock except the sights. I did have the slightly lighter connector installed some years back, 4.5 I think, but it's the Glock OEM part. If it's a range toy have at it and have fun, if it's a carry or home protection piece I'd leave it alone. Just my 2 cents. They are still the best all around handgun you can buy IMO right out of the box.

Yeah mainly home protection and one day a carry gun. What’s the benefit of the lighter connector?

Yeah, definitely gonna pick up the extended mag release and upgrade the sights but beyond a light I don’t think there’s more I’d want to do to it.

I got the gun back in 2008, at that time they (Glock) were using a heavier connector, I installed the "minus" connector which had just a bit friendlier trigger pull without being too light like a competition gun or anything, The newer Glocks (I also have a Gen 5 G19) feels fine and I am pretty sure all new Glocks have the minus connector now. Perhaps Glock experts can chime in on that, I am not a Glock expert by any stretch, I just shoot and carry one. It made the gun more shooter friendly without lightening the trigger to a point that I woud feel is ill advised for self/home defense vs. a target pistol.

My main issue with nearly all Glocks as they come from the factory are the atrocious triggers. They offer a factory Glock drop-in unit that improves it quite a bit. However, they still need to be cycled quite a bit to smooth up. Dry practice can help this. While they will never be like a good 1911 due to the geometry and a completely different design, with lots of use they can be very effective.
They sure seem to be reliable. Mine run on all kinds of junk ammo that would choke just about anything else. I keep the slide rails well lubed, and they just go.

Does anyone know Randall from AR15 barrels?….if so, perhaps we could get him to come on over, if he is still around. I liked his explanations of rifle building, etc. Being that the old site is pretty much dead, I’m hoping that the knowledge base will migrate. Seeing the post from Beetle for example, was golden.

He's still there, he replied in the CF rifle thread about re-barreling a LA R700 into 6.5CM on 09/03 @ 1205 AM (maybe that's the only time the site works reliably? haha!!).

Quiet always seemed to pretty much know it all without being a "know it all." I agree, he's a great asset to any forum.
 
My son told me about this page after CalGuns took a dump.

Retired Marine Gunner, Infantry Weapons Officer. I recently started competing in USPSA CO and waiting for my classification to be released. I reload on my free time on my Dillon XL750. Hopefully this site is a better than Calguns which so far it is.

I'm also a CCW training provider for OC and SD counties.
