I'm guessing if AB 1127 gets signed by Newsom

The California governor does not need to sign laws to for them to become effective.
A bill becomes law if the governor signs it, allows it to become law without a signature,
or takes no action within the legally defined timeframe.

All the California governor needs to do is NOT veto a bill and it becomes law in 12 days.

Yea this part blows. I never actually looked into other states if it is like that, or is it just CA?

Looks like 22 states do not require signature of the governor.

This is done so Governors can let controversial laws pass and then say "I didn't sign that law" when they did not have the balls to actually veto it either.
When they WANT publicity for a law, then they call a press conference and do the standard signing ceremony.

This is Newsom's first opportunity to ban a gun. He will not miss the opportunity to sign this “common-sense” gun law which takes machine guns off the street.

We can expect a news conference with all of the usual suspects plus family members of folks killed almost 3 years ago in Sacramento where a Glock switch was used.
