Staccato on the decline?

HK is like half the cost of Staccato and still too expensive for most departments and agencies. It’s a hard sell for them to buy $600-1000 (???) HK’s when they can get Glocks and sigs for like $200-300 each, so I can’t imagine how hard it would be to sell $2-3k 2011’s that also are more difficult to use and require more training.

It just hit me. Is it really that much different between finding a missing child vs playing matchmaker ? You are looking for the right person in both scenarios

I think the LEA contracts are more like LEA approved for individual officer to purchase. During a PPT years ago I remember a LAPD officer telling me about the training they have to go through before the department would allow them to purchase a Staccato for duty on their own dime.

Yeah LAPD has a 1911/2011 approval thing. That's not a purchase contract with a dept though like that DoE police deal

Better than 90% as well lol. I can’t find any agency contracts they have other than some small sales to SWAT departments

Ontario PD, Montclair PD, and I want to say Santa Monica PD all have Staccato for duty carry. I could be wrong on SM, but I thought a buddy said that’s what he was issued. Granted he is SRT. But Ontario and Montclair are standard LEO

Ontario PD is the first ever, Couldn't find any info on Montclair PD other than possibly Glock 17, and for SMPD it's
306.3.1 DUTY WEAPONS
The authorized Department-issued handgun is the Smith and Wesson M&P (full size) pistol, in
either .9mm or .45 caliber.

I shot next to a OC sheriff at my local range. He showed it to me. Had the OC sheriff logo engraved. This was around 6 months ago.

That doesn't mean it's issued department wide. I would think Staccato would have such a big agency published somewhere

The department-issued gun is a Glock 17, but department members can purchase their own gun, provided it meets certain requirements. Staccato meets that criteria. But I know a guy that loves his Springfield XD 9, and another who loved his P220. Basically, a semi-auto pistol from any approved manufacturer (in 9mm, .40s&w, or .45acp only) could be purchased to carry at work. No idea how a manufacturer gets “approved “ tho.

Back in my day, the Department issued you a 92 FS. (They eventually transitioned to G22’s, then G17/19, and I’ve heard they’re now issuing G45 COA’s)

You could carry most anything else…at your own expense. The Department armorer had to inspect and sign off on your choice.
