What do we think of the Mini 14?

Sure the baseline mini-14 may not be a pinpoint repeater but I have heard good things about Accuracy Systems modifications that improve it significantly. https://www.accuracysystemsinc.com/. End all be all, regardless of dollar for dollar, an AR15 may still out perform the mini-14 platform. I still love mine regardless of stupid California laws. I hope to be able to invest in my mini-14 with Accuracy Systems eventually.

There are likely other outfits trying to improve the mini-14 platform that I am unaware of. Don't be shy to share.

Yah AR’s are easier just don’t have a stupid mag lock on your AR and you are good to go.

I have an ASI -30 in 6.5 Grendel. It's about a 1 MOA gun, but I wouldn't call it a tackdriver by any means.

Mini-14 in stock configuration has no assault weapon complications. They are easier to operate thanks to that.

More importantly, Ruger Mini-14s are as easy to acquire in California as in any other State.

Everything should be "accurate" at 50 yards. That's not much of a comparison that close

I paid $200 bucks for a 180 series decades ago. I ended up trading it for an as issued '54 Tuls SKS and 1K of X39. PAX

Rifle gear has them in Foutain Valley and Dallas and they ship between the stores for free. I saw one on the wall yesterday when I was pickup up a new sight.

It was also over 1K so F- that noise. 😂
 
It’s a great gun, I have nothing bad to say about it. Does everything perfect for what it is. Even the older ones with the pencil barrel are very good, the accuracy claims are completely overblown. The guns are very accurate.

In CA, with the laws here it’s a no brainer buy over the ar-15 in my opinion. No mag locks or retarded grip fins. Really underrated. Handles great as well. The mini 14 and mini 30 are solid.

Where do you live? Triple A in Vallejo. Sportsman’s warehouse, I believe, have them??

Personally I'm not a fan of any of the Garand family of rifles aesthetically. Mechanically the mini-14 was outdated at its inception, and the ideology behind its design just bugs me. IE retreat and surrender to gun control, but make a buck off of it by masking it in the aesthetics of an older generation.
 
Not a Mini-14, but the Sig MCX Regulator caught my attention so I picked one up. Have yet to get it out at the range but added a LVPO. Takes PMAGs. Should be fun to shoot. Basically a Featureless ARish Rifle.

That’s a pretty good trade in my book. Outstanding in fact. That’s a nice rifle and the sks is one of the funnest to shoot!
 
I agree Mini 14s aren’t cheap, but are they really that much more than a decent AR?

I keep an eye on FN, Colt and H&R’s websites because I plan to pick up M4 and M16A1 clones if/when our AW ban is struck down. I don’t remember anything they sell being especially cheaper.

Where are people getting these sub-$600 ARs that aren’t junk?

You can get two different models of ruger AR’s for less than the mini 14. You can get a S&W Sport 3 for less. Sig M400 or SA Saint for the same or less then mini14’s. So not sure what the 600 dollar price point is. These are all better rifles, with a better support, at the same or less price point.
