Springfield eschelon. I have or have had every roster 9mm and I can confidently say overall the eschelon 4.0 is my favorite. That being said I think the answer to the question depends on the persons likes, priorities and purpose

Kinda surprised no one has said it so far, but I'd say undoubtedly the 365 XMacro comp. Big enough to be a good range gun/home defense gun, but small enough to be a very good ccw. Optic ready, decent enough trigger, good capacity, and near infinite aftermarket support. You can make it into a micro size pocket 9, or a metal frame 4.5" gun for competition. It really is a do everything gun.

It’s a great carry gun but and I compete in IDPA (CCP division) with it but even with the Fuse slide I wouldn’t put it first for home defense.

But that’s just because I have large hands and prefer something heavier and wider.

Even with the X-Macro grip I had to play around with quite a few backstraps to find a grip that works for me.

Try the Sharps Bros aluminum grip for it. It's a good bit wider than the factory grip. Puts it more in like with a Sig 226

Yet shoots worse than a P226, PDP Compact etc. Worse as a duty gun, worse for home defense, range and costs more. It's just thinner for ccw, the least important criteria for the question.

For range enjoyment, home defense, training, and general-purpose use, I’d still take the PDP. It has a better trigger, a better full-handed grip, more duty-size handling, and is still compact enough to carry if someone wants to. The XMacro is impressive because it shoots well for a slim carry gun, but it is still fundamentally a carry-optimized pistol.

If concealment is the priority, XMacro. If all-around shooting performance and versatility are the priority, PDP.

Yeah agree with all this, I love my p365 xl but shoot my Glocks, CZs, echelon, and DWX more at the range or comp. I think even with the full size grip it’d be the same story. The p365 trigger is just OK compared to some other new offerings, it’s real selling point is the thinness

If we get some new CZs on the roster soon as has been suggested by CZUSA, I’d probably put the Shadow 2 up there

Great gun. I have one myself. Only issue is it isn't optic ready. These days, it's standard. But at least it's possible to make it optic ready, it'll just cost extra.

P365 XMacro Comp is good for a possible carry gun, but it can’t compare to full size striker fired pistols otherwise, IMO.

VP9A1, M&P 2.0, PDP, Echelon, etc. are all better for the range, HD, competition, and everything other than CCW.

So limiting the discussion to guns that are only on the roster, what do you think the best all around 9mm is? Something you would buy for enjoyment at the range, home defense, etc. Not something that is super specialized for competition or ccw/concealment. Again, only pistols that you can walk into a California gun store and purchase.

My vote is the Walther PDP. Terrific ergonomics, great trigger for a striker gun, and won’t break the bank.

I just looked it up. That LCI isn’t huge and ugly like on some of the Sigs. Mag disconnect seems easy to remove and gives you the option to change the trigger once it’s out. I’m really content with the pistols I have but that’s a good choice. A really good choice.

I’d go with either an Sig P229 or Glock 19 depending if you like striker or hammer fired pistols. Glocks will be back on roster, can be had used.

Hard to go wrong with the M&P 2.0 especially with the upgrades to the trigger

The Rost Martin series is also a strong contender, hopefully the aftermarket support catches up to it.

P320 X5 legion is a fun gun to shoot. If you can find a range that will let you shoot it.

The PDP? Apparently the disconnect is pretty difficult to remove, not looking forward to that. I started my DROS

Metcalf and Coyote Point banned it. Pretty sure Richmond banned it but im not sure if its USPSA only or the entire facility. Pretty much it sucks to be a 320 owner and live in the bay unless you want to drive really far or shoot indoor

Personally, I love my X-Macro as an EDC but that's about it. I compete (IDPA) or train with it but just to stay polished.

However, I do know at least a few folks who have 2-3 P365's (FCU's).

Depending on the clothes they're wearing they'll swap the grip modules and slides out P365/X/XL/X-Macro/Fuse. X-Macro config - or 3.1" with Radian comp is most commonly carried - and then they'll have 1 or 2 they use just for plinking/training/competition.

I was doing pretty much the same with my P320's - 2 FCU's, X-Compact/Carry/Five - until my training opportunities were limited
