Some people don't care about facts or logical consistency. Those same people often get upset at those who point out logical inconsistencies, because they're not rational, self-aware, or used to interrogating their own beliefs.

How else do people hold opposing ideas in their head without apparent cognitive dissonance?

I'm not against hunting for food or for invasive species or vermin. I don't love "sport" hunting, as it bothers me fundamentally. Hunting seasons, take limits, and other rules helps preserve game animal populations.

Nothing wrong with fishing as long fish populations are preserved per guidelines. Overfishing is absolutely a thing. There are even rules about which fish can be kept, and minimum sizes, along with rules about trawling or use of nets.

I would say religion and the Bible itself aren't logically consistent. The Bible in my opinion should not be taken literally or seriously, and it can be easily shown to contradict itself on many topics. There are websites chock full of these contradictions.

Humans are hunters. We are omnivores by physiology. Our closest non-human relatives (chimps) cooperatively hunt and kill monkeys for food, and they use meat as kind of currency for allies and potential mates. We are built like predators, with our forward-facing binocular vision, and we have worlds-conquering hands with a brain to match.

Religion will muddy the waters for any debate if taken too literally or seriously. Best to leave that to the believers when talking about the natural world.

I’ve given up on hunting discussions with those opposed to it. Also, won’t discuss with those who dislike or thing guns are wrong. Won’t convince anyone or change sides.

Had a former co worker who was a peta type dont harm animals but she also liked steak dinner and sushi,When i said i was going on a fishing trip her quick response was hope you dont catch and kill poor fishies,I would tell her well skip your fancy sushi dinner.

As for hunting i started the past 4 years but only drawn 2 times no harvest yet.Still learning and not the end.But im also the type who is a you kill it you clean it and eat it.Not for the type who go to africa for exotics full guides and all they do is shoot the game then hang on their wall.I could have got javalina tag but it aint something i feel like eating anyways so didnt put in for draw.

Wild game is the healthiest food we can get.

Process it yourself, no injections of hormones and other poisons.

Unless you have kidney issues. Wild game is higher in Purines, which can lead to gout attacks.

Some years ago, I remember when speaking with some individuals, I introduced the topic about hunting, that mentioned they were against hunting when the topic was brought up; some disagreements came up about how they think killing is wrong, it’s killing animals, killing animals is wrong, oh it’s so brutal, or why kill animals when we can just go buy it at the grocery market.

I haven't gone to church in a long time. The others also have gone to church in the past.

I brought up and read some verses which does not prohibit hunting as long as it is for subsistence; some which depicts the man with the bow and arrow in a good light.

I also asked if they are currently vegan, vegetarian, or meat eaters. They were all meat eaters.

I asked why is it that they are not against angling? They themselves have gone fishing and crabbing, it’s not like their harvest was still alive; yet that is fine but hunting is not. I mentioned what about bow fishing for invasive species? They didn’t like that one either.

Seems like after that, they held a silent grudge against me ever since. No yelling was involved.

If it helps, they also don’t like guns either. Harvesting with a bow and arrow is still a no no; even if guns were not used for the harvest.

I asked someone else who is currently a church goer (not from the same church), if I am invalid; I was told no.

Was I rude or just being honest for bringing up these verses; maybe I should go back to church and ask.

Does the meat industry offer more peace and freedom; domesticated or raised for the purpose to be eaten by humans?

If it helps, I still see these people once in awhile…...

One explained a year later even though he knew I had a hunting license, saying he didn’t even know we needed deer tags or that there was a harvest limit for deer. I asked him how did you think it worked? “I thought you could just go out there and shoot as many as you want”. Until this day I think that’s just made up because it doesn’t sound real; or is it? Do people really think like that?

Short answer is:

A lot of people that go to church are going through motions, they don't actually live the lifestyle, have a relationship with God at all or read the Bible. They are lukewarm.
