GLocks and CZs are over rated.

I haven't been around here long enough to know - were off roster Glock prices so high before the California Glock ban?

I just dropped a chunk on a NIB 20 gen 5 I'm building for woods because (1) can't buy a gen 3 anymore from LGS, (2) even used gen 3s are being sold from 900-1100, (3) 10mm alternatives are limited in CA.

Without the Glock ban I would have happily bought a gen 3 from the LGS (though after taxes it still would have run $850+). But now the difference between a gen 3 and gen 5 wasn't so much. Might just be a temporary thing.
They've always been a little nutty, but not nearly as insane as I've been seeing Gen 6s listed for. Before, people would sell Gen 4s, and when they released, Gen 5s for around $1000-$1200. Most Gen 6s I've seen are $1800 now, which is insane. Glocks are $500 pistols, even at $1000, there's better options. Granted, we are limited on 10mms here, but at that price I would've gone with one of the Kimber 10mms, at least you'd know why it's costing you that much.

For me Glocks are great when they are reasonably priced. To me the Gen 6 is what you end up with after upgrading a Gen 3. If they were the same 499ish like in free America it would definitely be a great first gun since it has all the mods done from the factory. CZs are good guns but what keeps me from buying them is they are known to break slide releases at 8-10K. I've heard all the arguments of it's a consumable part or if you can afford to fire 8-10K rounds you shouldn't be worried about the cost, to you'll never put that many rounds through the gun etc, but IMHO it's a weak link in a system that you may rely your life on. Sure there are other striker fired guns/copies out there but none have been trusted or put through the ringer more than the Glock. To me Glocks are soooooo boring reliable so I've moved back to DA/SA platforms, but if I could only grab one and rely on it with little to no maintenance it definitely by a Glock

Yeah these triple retail prices are insane right now. Tbh that was the big issue - I don't like paying more than something is worth just because I live in CA. For 9mm there are a lot of options and agree with the consensus that I would just pivot to another platform rather than pay the premium.

10mm might be unique by comparison. Still doesn't really justify a markup, but I I couldn't find an alternative that I liked. I considered the Kimber but I'm not a 1911 guy and for a woods build I wanted lighter polymer, higher capacity option (when in Montana eventually Alaska) and something that is easier to maintain and takes a beating in the elements. That only left me with a G20 or the newly on roster M&P in 10mm. I just need to fire this one a lot before Glock re-enters CA with Gen V for half the price I paid!

I love how dependable Glocks are. Glocks and HKs for reliability in my hands. I enjoy the hand fitted, the modified, etc. handguns, but for reliability I don't have to worry about, stock polymer Glocks and HKs.

the off roster Glocks are the same, basically 1000+ for a gen 5, but gen 3 used to be 4-500. Gen 5 is a far superior pistol so it's quite dumb to overspend on a gen 3. Gen 6 is a wildcard because it just came out

We have two SW MP2.0 10mm on roster, 4.6 and newly added 5.6 Both under $1k, even with taxes and DROS fees

Were they ever not high? I traded a $500 Gen 4 Glock 19 for an off roster $1200 Sig 1911 in like.... 2017

Once again, you said something stupid. Unless you work at the factory, you have no idea what the QC process is for a particular firearm. Additionally, 1911 pistols are not made the same as 50+ years ago. Current methods are not even close.

You can spend $399 (normal prices; not CA stoopid pricing) on a foreign made production 1911 or $15,000+ for one made by Burton. The difference the labor, skill, etc. At some point, it turns into a luxury item. You should be able to understand these concepts.

By all means, enjoy your RIA, Tisas, etc. There is nothing wrong with doing so. I like to take a beater gun out and run it hard too.

I have noticed as I age, I value quality over quantity. I talked about craftsmanship because I want the best I can get for any particular price. Choosing a Nighthawk means I want significant gunsmith time put into my gun. I do not get that with a RIA, SIG or even Colt (Colt is currently a mess). There is certainly none of that in a polymer pistol where the engineering supercedes manual labor. Buying a polymer pistol means I want a disposable tool. Since you lack comprehension skills, this means I do not care if it gets damaged in a fight, muffed up in training or confiscated as evidence.
I'm fine with HK, Sig, Walther and other premium German brands that perform much better. I actually use them in real life so performance and quality matter much more to me. You keep your kit car Shelby Cobra, I'll take the F-22 Raptor lol

Exactly my question! I've never even looked at classifieds until this month. I had no idea how the markup has been over the years, but sounds like it has always been too high for most. I was also wondering if it spiked up even more after the Glock ban. And it seems like it has. Instead of double retail now it seems like triple retail based on what I am reading.

I'm happy with the G20, but my regret is not diving into research on the MP2.0 first as it could have saved me a couple hundred bucks if I liked it more. I haven't read anything yet on which handles hot loads better, but that would have been a big factor. Also, I already have a G29 so part of me just wanted to stick with the same platform.

This thought process of Glocks being over rated blows mind. yeah I get they are over priced here in CA but over rated?

I would say they are overrated now. People hold them in such high regard, but realistically, there's tons of other handguns just as reliable, just as durable, but with more features, better ergonomics, better sights, ect. Not that Glock is bad, but they haven't evolved with the times, they haven't innovated, and they are getting left behind because of it. Why would I get a $700 Glock with a crappy trigger, plastic sights, and a garbage MOS cut when I could get an M&P 2.0 or an Echelon that is just as reliable but with way better features? Glock has been riding on their name for a long time, but let's be honest, there's a reason so many LEOs are going with other platforms now.

Prices are what they are, the inevitable result of supply (or lack thereof) and demand courtesy of the CA roster. Blame Sacramento. The irony is that the current high prices, 11% sin tax on retail sales, and absurdly over-complex regulations most penalize the same low to moderate income constituency that some of these legislators claim to support.

I choose not to pay current Glock/CZ CA prices, this from someone who owns mostly HK. Others may not be bothered by it, and I too did crazy things before retirement.

I still have a couple of legacy Glocks but don't use them much anymore. My beefs again are largely CA-specific: never having access to on-roster gen 5 variants and their allegedly improved accuracy; and the until recently questionable reliability of 10-round Glock magazines with JHP (the orange follower gen 5 versions may finally be reliable, but I don't have enough rounds through them to fully trust yet; thus only the G26 was ever carried). No major complaints on CZ other than mostly being off-roster, although working on the 75BD that I had years ago required the hammer of Thor, simple things like replacing a barrel bushing required some muscle.

If/when we get an on-roster gen 6, I may, possibly, reconsider the above.

I agree there are more options now. Personally the reputation they have is deserved but agree to disagree. I don't drink the kool-aid of Glock "Perfection" by any means but they do what was advertised and don't consider that to be over rated IMO.

Yeah, quite a few gen 6 Glocks on the marketplace right now, those are too new to be from anyone except LEOs just looking to make a buck and profit from being exempt from unjust laws.
wait, is that really legal? How can you be exempt but then turn around and make money off of it to sell to those who normally wouldn't be able to get one.

There is a limit on how many they do. They will get flagged for excessive use of this loophole. Let’s keep that loophole open please!!!!

In other words. Don’t ask questions that gets eyes looking 👀
