Always wanted a Walther PPKs, Finally crossed paths with one a couple years ago! Love the look, the sleek lines down to the tip of the barrel...
So I bought it,... during Covid,... for a Covid Price,...... Don't Ask!!!...
Its Heavy, Snappy as all get out, Hurts my Hand after only a few rounds, I have to Grip it so hard my hands sweat, making it even harder to shoot,
Can't hit crap with it, NOT fun to shoot...Sitting in my safe for over a year now. But It's mine.....cause......It's the gun I always wanted

Pretty much every 1911 I've ever owned. I want to love them, but the issues with the design just make it impossible.

I was glad to get a chance to shoot a Hi-Power and a Sig P210 before spending money on ones. Both of those would have been subject to extreme buyer's remorse.

My favorite pistols are 1911's! What don't you like about them?

The firearm I regret purchasing is a CZ P-01. Like others have said on this topic, I don't know what the hype is around them. Compact and heavy all steel frame, I had no purpose for it in my collection. Put maybe 300 rounds threw it and sold it.

Still have the Sigma I bought when they came out. The only positive is it came with 2 17 round mags. The gun is a piece of crap. Stove pipes once or twice a magazine. Sent it back to Smith once, same issue. Have not shot it in years.

a few guns that have disappointed. Altho none was really “oh I gotta have it”. Just. More. Disappointed.

G26 my first foray into CCW. just could NOT shoot the thing for diddly. not really sure why. I can shoot other micros just fine or "good enough" but just hated this. granted im not really a striker fire/glock guy, but my g19 has been just fine and I regularly carry a p365 etc...

DW CBOB. slide is super stiff and just not that smooth and it’s oddly magazine picky. I bought it as a great deal off of GB so......it was sight unseen. I mean I know 1911s can be that way (magazine picky) but I never really experienced it before this one. It looks great. Feels great in hand. shoots pretty good (it's more accurate than I am a shooter) But….i will get a failure to lock up not infrequently. I need to remember which magazines it plays nice with which again I dont really experience with my other 1911s

HK MR556a1. Doesn’t like crap ammo. lol. I suppose shouldn’t shock me. lol. I mean it's HK, they hate the poors lol. as long as the ammo isnt utter crapola it is accurate and smooth and just simply doesnt get dirty but....was a little disappointing in that respect. it IS the gun that sold me on pistons. its shocking how little carbon there is to clean even after an extended session. but I got a few other 223/556 guns that eat ANYTHING so this was a bit disappointing. granted I shoot my own reloads now so it's not really an issue.

finally my Staccato C2. it's picky about ammo. got it used and I suspect the police officer I got it from never shot anything that wasn't defense ammo. anything thats "full powered" so to speak it's fine. but with a variety of garden variety 115 gr "range" ammos it'll have failure to lock back or stovepipe. Staccato sent me a new recoil mechanism and that made the stove pipes go away, but I still get failure to lock back periodically. In a variety of magazines. I even tried the atlas spring thing. I've been told that if I lighten up the hammer spring ever so slightly that may fix it, but im a bit hesitant to "mess" with it, especially cause im pretty sure the C2 doesn't use regular length hammer springs. but it's annoying. not "fatal" but annoying.

The whole un-ergonomic of having to ride the thumb safety or you might flip on the safety under recoil. Let alone the problem that riding the safety pulls my hand off the grip safety so that I cannot make the model reliably go bang.

Here’s my PPK experience .

I got one in trade with a buddy and thrilled to pick it up. Bought 6 more mags, holster, got set to shoot it. I shot it for a scenario at APC and it went like this: bang! OUCH! Bang! ! Bang! GAWDAMMIT! BANG! MotherF-er! The bastard has a goddamn blackhole of a backstrap that sucked in the webbing of my hand and gave me an epic case of slide bite. I cleaned off my blood and immediately sold it.

Same here with my ppks but I still have it..sentimental value.

HA! Pretty much. Although I will say that I shoot mine fairly well. Hand size group, center mass, at 15 yards.

An older Staccato P with a steel frame and no optic cut. The factory grip was awful, way to big. Locking back on empty was also inconsistent. Sold it to someone who was much experienced with 2011s after about 200 rounds.

Les Baer. I love 1911s, but hated that one. Very tight, but somehow it didn't feel quality, the way my Wilson Combats did.

Also surprised to see the mixed reviews on the P365... I recently got one (9mm) for my EDC, and it's far surpassed my expectations. I understand that there were reliability problems with the early ones, years ago, but mine has been flawless. I think it's an amazing balance of slim/concealable and super easy to aim/shoot. I have small hands, and I'm sure it's hard if you have really big hands. (But then I'm also 5'5" 120, so I have to laugh when I hear guys complaining about the recoil. Really? I find it extremely manageable. Maybe because I had a Rohrbaugh for years... if you think the P365 is 'snappy', that thing would have made you cry ).

I got one for my dad years ago and it jammed a lot, he sent it back and they kept it and sent him a new SD9ve, said it was a bad design and destroyed it, try sending yours back again.

It’s too bad with most guns you can’t shoot them before you buy them, so it’s a bit of a crapshoot. I highly recommend a magazine called Gun Tests. They don’t take advertising, so their reviews aren’t the hype you see in most of the other mags.

When you see a gun they rate highly, you know it’s pretty good, but unfortunately quite a few aren’t on the CA roster.

Personally, I prefer guns that run nicely right out of the box, without any gunsmithing or "breaking in period." I wasn't the only one with a low opinion of Kimber's Solo. So many were returned that they discontinued the gun. I'll never own another of their guns, and when asked, will always tell this story about their junky quality. I could go on and on, but I think you get the gist of what I'm trying to say.

I never tried a Solo. Maybe I got lucky, but I’ve owned two Kimber 1911s, a full-size and an Ultra-carry, and they were both damn fine pistols right out of the box with hundreds of rounds and zero jams.

Regarding shooting well right out of the box: I also bought a Wilson Combat 1911, and they specifically tell you not to contact them about jams until you’ve put at least 500 rounds through the gun. I’m guessing they machine them tight for longevity rather than immediate gratification.

Sigh. I admit that I still have an Ultra-Carry in the safe--and it's been reliable. Maybe I should get over my bitterness and shoot it a little more. I'm picking up an unfired 44 year old 1911 tomorrow, so maybe I'll soon have a .45 only day at the range.

Atlas Erebus. The way the rear hits my lower thumb joints was just really uncomfortable. I didn't think the recoil was that soft. Sold it and ordered a customized Platypus using the awesome configurator on the Stealth Arms site.
