I, a lawyer, just got a 7 day ban in r/CAguns for saying I’m a lawyer

Most mods are low key here. I think you’ve seen i try to be fair but if you’re going to come after the owner be ready to be kicked out. This isn’t some place we all gather, I have to build it and keep building.

My MO is it’s ok to disagree but just be respectful about it. I think a lot of people forgot how to be politely disrespectful and go straight to internet trolling. There’s an in between. The biggest difference able this site it’s a hybrid. You can are likely to meet people from online here with better success rate than online dating!

So main thing is maintaining decorum, some people feel it’s overreach but if you’re in someone’s house, gotta respect their rules. I have nothing against you or know you. I think you can tell we come down hard on people who are disruptive more than a specific side.

Imagine if we banned people because we said they were wrong. I wouldn’t even be here

I absolutely agree. I know I had my couple times of not being 100% polite and respectful and have learned to curtail my back and forth. This website is not for proving people wrong and changing their opinions. It is for gun people to come together and share a hobby we all love.

I have made big changes to the way I interact with people here and has made my time on here much better.

And @ikeo1 you have made an amazing site that will only grow and bring more people into the fold. So thank you for that big time.

This place is starting to turn into calguns more and more every day. People need to treat each other like they do when face to face at the gun range, and stop the online insults and hating.

There’s more people so more banter is bound to happen. As long as no one is named or doxxed and it’s just a little venting it’s ok. We don’t want to let things go but a little decompression is ok. It’s the internet so there’s always going to be some form of it.

We have a good standing / respect with the mods there. If they don’t like something we’ll remove it out of respect just like we would anyone asking to remove a topic about them.

Everyone can manage what they run the way they like. No one is obligated to give people a platform on these things especially when they know nothing about you. One pattern I notice is so many people think I’m out to get them here, I’m not. I really don’t care.

Sometimes it’s just knowing when to back off and cool off.

Your comments and contributions have been genuinely welcomed. I prioritize people who want to build the community, not split them and you’ve been here long enough to see the change.

Mod is all up in his feelings after disagreeing with something I said. Told him I wasn’t going to argue the point, but that I’d put my law degree up against his any time.

He then tried to start an argument and accused me of impersonating an attorney. I reported him for harassment for accusing me of committing a crime and he banned me for 7 days and said I’m not allowed to “misrepresent my credentials” when I come back.

I’m trying to decide if that means I’m not allowed to say I’m not an attorney or if I have to preface everything with, “As an attorney…”

Calguns.net was the best for CA gun owners.... People ask a question and only lawful answers were given and if someone tried to offer wrong/illegal advise they were shut down hard and banned>

Caguns.net has a lot of guys who play the....they will never know....you can get away with....I won't get caught....people who love to skirt the law and give others the same bad advice.

Reddit CAguns is a cesspool of internet tough guys who love to talk about dumb illegal stuff they do. When you cite the actual penal code they downvote you an no one sees it.

I’d rather read the personal opinions of people from all sides on the subject than have someone cite penal codes, which I can look up myself. I wouldn’t seek legal advice on a public forum anyway, since I can’t verify anyone’s credentials and there’s no attorney-client privilege.

It works. Public shaming is one of the greatest tools for behavior modification that is still legal today. I've been saying it for a long time.
