Kimber 2K11 California Updates?

I was watching pewview review and he showed kimbers port, which isn’t common chunk port. The way he explained there is some machining involved and material removed to make it a little bit more like a comp. Rifling stops at the port and muzzle machined wider than barrel would normally be because of extra tick walls of bull barrel. Not sure if he trusted guntuber in 2011 community, but he said it works better than other simple chunk ports
In his words, “This thing f****”.

I'll be curious to see a side to side test with the Sig P211 and an Atlas and see what metrics the Atlas does better at to justify the price

pewview's side by side with p211 gto and bull armory, I think he has another one side by side with staccato XC

It's not a performance difference it's just a lot of nuanced things like how it fits together, how smooth the internals are and how well it will run out of the box without tuning. Their price is in line with any other custom maker for what you get, these cheaper 2011s are from larger makers with larger production lines and will have some internals parts that are technically inferior even if that means little in practice. If you were to piece an atlas together from parts it would cost you more than the Kimbers or the P211. No one can say if it's justified per se, but they are great guns. But a lot of the price difference is subjective. If you aren't competing it's pretty much irrelevant.

I'm not looking for "sufficient", my match gun is 52oz and I like shooting it more than a 28oz gun when I'm shooting on the move and doing doubles as fast as I can. It's not something I "need" it's something I "want". 2011s are finicky as hell and make poor carry guns, there's nothing really to argue about beyond that, the 9mm DS warrior lacks an identity and would be much better in steel.

That one looks great

Anyone else see the MLS instagram post? Curious if any vendors on here have insight?
It is coming very soon. R66 and Rifle Gear in Fountain valley will be getting them first in the state and rifle gear so far seems to have the best prices and no 11% sin tax or DROS fees (offer good till end of summer) 2a Zone said they will also be getting them but not sure when but they said they will get them and other ffl’s will get them a month after r66 and rifle gear. 2a Zone confirmed this with me on Tuesday of this week and rifle gear and 2a zone are taking deposits as of 2 weeks ago

No sin tax or dros fees?!

PWG Range (San Diego area) sent a pre-order ad today PWG Range
I was gonna do it but hoping Kimber will also submit the Kimber 2K11 pro ds in 45 as well. Got to play with it in the 45 configuration yesterday afternoon in Vegas and now I’d rather prefer it now in 45 over 9mm. I canceled my preorder at rifle gear just in case. At least in a free state there was no price differences between the 2 other than capacity. In 45 the 2K11 Pro is such a soft shooter almost same recoil impulse as my stacatto p heritage but that extra thump 🤤

Nope they extended the offer on Monday after their 4th July sale ended but will continue extending the offer for no sin tax (still subject to sales taxes fountain valley has a higher sales tax rate than rest of OC but still lower than LA County sales tax rate) and DROS goes till end of summer. I got the email and saw them post it on their IG stories as well earlier this week.

Don't have a video but here's my take on it. My buddy just got a 2k11 and I have an Atlas. His and my view is that everything about the Atlas is better, grip, trigger, fit and finish, safety etc. But is it $4,000 dollars better? No. I personally don't like the look of the Kimber's, they look like a temu version of an Infinty to me. I just got a Race City Defense Core for my backup competition gun and it really makes it hard to ever justify an Atlas. Atlas parts in it with their own frame and grip and it's $2,999.00 so not too far off from the CA 2k11 price and less than half an Atlas.

Lucky me, I like how kimber looks and didn’t get spoiled by hand fitted high end pieces 😂
If Kimber’s machining and finish comparable to staccato HD - I’m game

This is so ridiculously tempting, especially seeing what people are trying to sell their Glocks for post-ban.

The variants I played with are fitted well with no rattling. The ball bearing staccato like slide racking though is not as smooth on the 2k11 but it pretty darn close even with the grittiness but that could also be how it left the factory and lack of lube and will break-in I’m sure. Although I will say the 2K11 in .45acp was smoother than the 9mm version but again could be slight manufacturing tolerances or coating to slide. Also the .45 ds variant felt just as smooth as my broken in staccato p heritage.

Does rifle gear charge credit card fees? 2A Zone does and thats a big turn off for me.

I have never noticed when doing any card transactions with Rifle Gear but at 2a Zone I usually pay them through Zelle or Venmo to avoid getting hit with the transaction fee. Part reason also I don’t use gunbroker as much as I want to cause the card fees associated with most vendors. I pay attention to extra fees and sales taxes when making big purchases. A few years back I had made an excel spreadsheet sheet of the cheapest cities and counties to buy a firearm in and I will say LA County is thee highest in extra fees and taxes than any other county or city/town in the state. Turners also adds on extra fees so I usually never shop with them. Actually I should find that spreadsheet and make a post on here showing the cost differences with fees and sales taxes from one county to the next. On that note I will say that fountain valley has a higher sales tax rate than the rest of Orange County and other OC cities but it not terrible that it would add more to the cost of the firearm than buying like say Burbank or some other LA County based city/town.
